New Focus Bug

Post by Johnfull »

SeaMonkey has had an annoying bug with the window going out of focus -- even when it's the only one open.
Now, the browser window not only goes out of focus, but the mail window jumps into focus in front every time
a new webpage is open. It's nuts! What's with the focus hocus pocus?...

I'm having the same issues now since updating to 2.12 recently.

Mostly just when I open a new page, the mail window jumps in front

Using Win 7 64

Hope there is a bug filed and they do a quick-fix on this, it is very annoying

Well, I don't think it's only windows with flash player embeds.
Anyone else experiencing unnecessary loss of focus?...

I'm seeing this too, the first time I open certain links or bookmarks such as http://www.foxnews.com/ or http://www.youtube.com/ if I also have a mail/news window open behind the browser window. I've been keeping the mail/news window minimized or closed as a workaround.

I didn't find a specific SeaMonkey bug but I did find this newsgroup post about the problem, which says that disabling Flash resolves the issue:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/mozilla.support.seamonkey/Ho5w_Ro7y5k

If it gets too annoying I'll try disabling protected mode in Flash. I'm using the current Flash plugin version 11.4.402.265 and I don't want to downgrade Flash or disable it.

Disabling Protected Mode in Flash fixed the problem.

I too have same problem. It's really annoying. I hope they get it fixed in 2.13. I am thinking of going back to 2.11. Bob.

Try the workarounds here:

Like I said, what fixed it for me was disabling Protected Mode in Flash (by editing the mms.cfg file as explained in the above link).

Hi Alice. Thanks. I just did the uninstall of 11.0 and reinstall of 10.3. I hope it works. Best regards, Bob.

The problem is not going away and may actually be getting worse since I first posted. Another permanent bug, I guess...

I was beginning to think that it was a clever new security tool -- create a moving target to foil hackers.
That would put it right up there with all the roadblocks that Microsoft Vista threw in the path of workflow
in the name of digital management and firewalls and permissions. Ah, VIsta; where are you now?...
