Sped Up Downloads
Hi i am wondering if anyone can tell where i can find a good download accelerator or if there is any tricks to increase the download speed of my HP PC? I am getting so frustrated with slow speed . especially when i am downloading large file. If my internet connection kicks off ; i usually have to start the download all over again. Even a free DL manager that anyone can recommend would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Sped Up Downloads
I used to use DAP - Download Accelerator Plus - gave it up when we had Cox Cable - super high speed internet and not needed.

Also might try FlashGet

Find a big file, try with various download managers. See what works for you.

I often take a long windy road to my destination. Upon arrival, I wonder how I missed the shortcut.

howdy biobo2012,
i use this DLM ...
Free Download Manager - absolutely free download accelerator and manager
... and disable the extension it installs into firefox. then i install this extension ...
FlashGot :: Add-ons for Firefox
it has some handy tweaks that i find useful. mostly, the author is an experienced extension programmer - unlike the various DLM authors. flashgot can hand off to any DLM you have installed. it can even hand off to different ones for different uses. that is one use case i have never needed. [*grin*]
take care,
lee

biobo2012,
If you find that Firefox v15, disables the FDM plugin/extension, then you may have to "bump" the "em:maxVersion."
Although you will have to "up it" after a Firefox update &/or if no newer FDM version covers it.

How to update install.rdf in Firefox/Win7.
Close Firefox & go to...
C:\Program Files\Free Download Manager\Firefox\extension\install.rdf
Open the file in/with Notepad.
Find the following section...
<em:targetApplication> <!-- Firefox -->
<Description>
<em:id>{xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}</em:id>
<em:minVersion>1.5</em:minVersion>
<em:maxVersion>14.*.*</em:maxVersion>
Just change 14 to 15 and save the file.
You should be good for all version 15 updates.

"OR"
You can go for the setup known as "utorrent" which will give you the speed as your wanted. Download this setup from internet and it is compatible to every computer. So, try to download this setup might solve your problem.

howdy wilson.eric,
the OP appears to want to download normal files that are hosted on websites and accessed thru the usual protocols. torrent clients are REALLY fine for things like bootable ISO images [since those are often torrented], but few websites provide a torrent link.
if his sources are available as torrents, then your idea will work _very_ well. i rather doubt that is the case, tho.
just in case the OP is interested, here is a link to the micro torrent site ...
µTorrent - a (very) tiny BitTorrent client
take care,

This one is open source software. I've tried it, and I can say it's clean, and it works as advertised.

yeah it is usual the big files that mess me up. Just want to make sure that there are no viruses an what not in whatever i decide to go with. Had that happen last time. Big freaking headache.
Or when i am downloading multiple files. Then i have to start them all over again.
