Completely removing the Babylon Toolbar extension

Menu > Help > Troubleshooting Info > click Open Containing Folder.

Close Firefox.

Open the pref.js file using a text editor and get rid of those entries.

Also make sure you don't have a user.js file, if you do open that up and look for those entries.

There have been reports of the Skype toolbar installing nasties with it so you might try disabling that and repeating.

Babylon had wormed its way onto my system despite me unticking all the relevant boxes during installation of Hypercam2 some time ago. I had managed to get rid of visible signs of it but accidentally came across the about:config entries whilst looking for something else - horror

Before doing anything else I uninstalled Hypercam2 via Add/Remove (I wish I'd used Revo but just didn't think!).

Patrick's solution has worked for me, once I managed to access Notepad (in Windows7 it's in Windows>System32) to use as "text editor". Babylon was in prefs.js (I deleted entries and saved file) and user.js (I deleted that file entirely as there was nothing in it besides Babylon entries).

For extra reassurance I rebooted the laptop and checked about:config - it's well and truly GONE!

By putting it in user.js they are assuring that when you restart Firefox their settings will come back after you've disabled them.

Thanks for the help, thusfar. But I am stuck as to how I actually find and delete the pref.js and user.js files. Where do I find them and how to I delete them? I'm a newbie at these kinds of things. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've discovered that uninstalling the browser manager and any files related to babylon solves all issues with firefox and ebay!! the firefox browser is much quicker now and loads pages up in seconds with no issues!!

I hope this works for everyone??

You are lucky. Most people have to manually files in their Firefox profile.

• Go to HKLM\Software\ and delete Browser Manager from here
• Remove the dll from HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Appinit_Dlls

NOTHING IS WORKING!!!! Why the heck can I not get this removed? This is soo not cool and I know some people are sick of this topic (as I search for the solution to remove it permanently because all the previous "How to Uninstall" are not a SOLUTION) but the steps listed here time over and over again are NOT a solution. It does not come off. After preforming the same steps over 4 times it's still here and still lurking in the background and I HATE it!!!
Please someone tell me really how to remove it please cause seriously nothing so far posted has worked permanently. even Babylon themselves give instructions but of course they don't work either.

Also on my other laptop I have "Sweet I'Am" that I can't remove. I have tried everything there as well all to get the same results, it disapears then reappears.
Seems every time I update Firefox I get some funky virus or Malware/Spyware or something. Last year when I upgraded Firefox I got a "Cars 4 All Biz.com" virus that would not let me search or navigate to any website I had not been to before. Basically completely disabled m PC for new use of anything and it took forever to remove it and I'm sure its not completely removed either and I'm sure its lurking around in the background somewhere and eventually will again rear its ugly head... I want a MAC..... All this makes me Want A Mac even MORE............

again I know many are sick of this topic but it would'nt be a topic anymore if there was a real solution given somewhere. I'm sorry for the post but I'm in need of a real solution. Please help if you have it. I'm willing to issue a Starbucks gift card to whomever had the Real Solution for these pesky bugs......

1. You are not getting those problems from updating Firefox, unless you are not using the automatic updating process but are instead downloading newer version from sites other than Mozilla's official one. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop

2. What security software are you running on that system? Are you sure that you completely cleaned out the prior infections?
Install and run these programs, consecutively, not simultaneously.

If I see that ridiculous response from Babylon.LTD again, anywhere on the internet, I might just have to go round and brick their windows!!! They know perfectly well that that is NOT enough to get the wretched thing off your computer altogether.

I have spent the best part of a week - all day, every day and most of the night - working on getting this off my partner's computer.

I followed ALL the instructions in this thread and on recommended specialist malware-removal sites, using ALL the tools recommended. I have edited or deleted the files in the registry, scanned and re-scanned with malware finders and removal tools and have a firewall and AV on constantly.

I finally got rid of everything babylon except about:config and cleared that editing the pref.js (there was no user.js file). Many thanks for that tip as I did not find that information elsewhere - most of the other sites just focus on removing the more obvious evidence of the babylon toolbar and search engine rather than the deep-rooted problem.

The rubbish instructions from Babylon are irrelevant except for removing surface symptoms of the infection. On the infected computer:

- Babylon is NOT now listed in extensions

- is NOT now listed in search engines

- and it is NOT in "about:config" either.

Nevertheless, a search from the search box on the Firefox "home page" produced a page of results generated by Babylon!

(All the BrowserMgr files and variants as described in posts above have already been removed).

Back to square one!

Despite all these efforts there is clearly something still lurking on the PC that is re-generating this evil parasite!

I wish I knew how to initiate a class action case against Babylon - they damn well deserve it for wasting so much time for so many people globally!
