ForecastFox bug 789439

Post by TheVisitor »

Users of ForecastFox probably have noted that it stopped displaying as of the build for Sept. 6, 2012

Discussion here:
viewtopic.php?p=12267071#p12267071 and following for a few posts.

Filed bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=789439
I read on a ForecastFox news group a few months ago shortly after the problems with the changes to usage of 'wrappers', that the developer was looking for someone to take the addon as he no longer had time to maintain it. A kind sole updated the forecastfox.js file to fix the wrapper problem.

The patch that broke it this time is known, and noted in the bug. The developer is asking here about an "un-minified" source.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=789439#c4

I have no idea what he's referring to when he says un-minified.
The 'new/updated' forecastfox.js appears to me to be ruffly 1/2 the file size of the original. I have no idea if removing the wrapper code reduced the file by that much and that's what he's calling the 'un-minified' file.

Also asking about source-code.. couldn't he just grab the addon and get that ?
It would be a shame to lose such a good addon.

Any help would be appreciated, I hate to spam the bug with my ignorance.

Unminified = readable, basically. Minified source code saves space by shortening variable names, cutting out white space and so on (I don't know all the techniques used). It's smaller (obviously) but becomes almost impossible to read. I don't know if it's possible to effectively unminify source code automatically (things like indentation and white space could be fixed, but if variable names are shortened that could be a problem), or if you'd need the original code (i.e. before it was minified).

+++TEMPORARY WORK-AROUND+++

1. Launch Firefox
2. Weep at the lack of Forecastfox
3. Hit Ctrl+N to spawn a new Firefox window
4. Holy crap- Forecastfox is there!
5. Close original Firefox window that is missing Forecastfox
6. Go about your usual business

Surf the Internet is a dirty job but someone has to do it.
