Youtube/redtube videos - i cannot figure this out! (keeptube

Post by bmxxx »

I'm using firefox with:
-adblock (with the popup add on)
-element hiding helper
-flashblock
-lavasoft search plugin
-no script
-flagfox

I downloaded flv movies downloader and keeptube addons.
for the flv movies downloader, i can get it to downlaod a file but the resultant file won't play (i have every codec i can find, and have tried every program - wmp, vlc, etc etc)
for keeptube, i am not even sure where/how the thing works (when i go to their help, it seems they just want me to go there and copy/paste every time?!)

I watch and record a lot of youtube videos - right now the best method i have found for copying the videos is a standalone program "free youtube downlaoder".
I have to imagine there's an easier way, IE something that I can *click*, instead of copy/paste, to get my videos!!

any help is extremely appreciated, thanks in advance :)

FlashGot works great. To play FLV files you need FLV Player... unfortunately that program has become infested with 3rd party programs in the newest version, and the old version constantly gives popups demanding you upgrade to the new (infested) version.

so would your reco just dealing with flv player and 3rd party garbage, or can i convert the flv's? (like with loudnoise's approach?)
would really like something "plug and play"-ish. even if it is 2 programs or steps (rip and convert), if it can be setup fluidly enough it wouldn't matter so long as i end with avi's or mp4's or mkv's etc

loudnoise- thank you that's helping get me on the right path but it's not ripping everything and did require separate convert prog.s and it doesn't do redtube (perhaps i need to expand my porn-site-purview ;PP )

Good luck finding something free that will read FLV's and record AVI/MP4 whatever.

The version of FLV Player I've got that's simple is 2.0 build 25. I *think* if you go into settings and disable the update check it will no prompt for the new version... I'm guessing build 25 is the last one for v.2.0.

Here is a free and handy multi-converter. I've been using it for years. It's fast and converts anything to anything.

http://www.formatoz.com/

I use VideoDownloadHelper to download the files and then convert them with Format Factory.

I use this program to view videos that Windows Media Player won't play (.flv, .mp4, .mkv, etc.)

For some reason my copy of Media Player Classic is *really* picky about the FLV's and AVI's it will play and simply won't play new FLV's at all any more. I probably have some bad codecs or something... I just got tired of messing with it.

I have the K-Lite Codec Pack installed and I rarely run into problems.

Jesus tapdancin' Christ! VLC can play FLV's. I thought everybody knew this. Whatever you're using to play multimedia at the moment - if it ain't VLC, uninstall it.

Then install VLC.

3. PROFIT!!!

I just abhor VLC.... it takes over everything and I don't want another bloated ridiculous media player like WMP. I like my simple MPC!

You obviously haven't installed VLC. VLC is as far from bloatware as you can get.

It's just one of those programs that IMO is trying to be too clever for it's own good. Everytime I've tried to use it I feel like I'm struggling to force it to not do things I don't want it to do... which is exactly why I don't use WMP.

I have switched to VLC, as I find it easier than keeping codecs up to date and deciding which to keep and not keep.

But, I used to play FLV files with MPC (media player classic) using the FFDshow codecs.
