Guys, Mozilla is blocking all AMD drivers since 12.8 and afterwards? Even 12.9beta, 12.10 stable, 12.11 beta?

I'm asking because I thought 12.9 beta weren't blocked. Now I see all of these newer versions are being blocked...

Yeah, pretty much if you have Windows 8 and an AMD card, you don't get Firefox hardware acceleration. Makes me very sad :(

And from Bug 804493:
Unfortunately the underlying issue seems to be AMD's bug.

We can blocklist more AMD drivers, but first: We now have a dialogue open with AMD, so we should have them tell us what they're going to do about it.

Edit: Er, maybe doesn't *completely* disable HWA, just Direct2D? Or something? I'm not fully versed in the differences between all these things.

HWA On in the options (scrolling is still smooth):

HWA off in the options (scrolling is choppy):

Changes the "GPU Accelerated Windows" setting - it's 1/1 instead of 0/1. So the GPU is still doing *something* at least.

It appears they are blocking 12.11 drivers, GPU is being used by 0% and now I'm lagging when I scroll...
EDIT: Oops probably unrelated unless they are blocking beta drivers for win7?

Damn I had send the card for RMA, and meanwhile I went from win7 to win8. Now I got the new card and confused... I remember other than 12.8 were not blocked.

Anyway, thanks. Damn AMD drivers have so many issues, I doubt we will get HWA on Win8 within 2012.

As long as I was with my old GTX460 ( 310.33 drivers ), its behavior was great. The clocks were remaining mostly on idle ( 50Mhz ) while on AMD jump a lot on video ( 501 ) or even 3d mode ( 900Mhz ). I was "crying" about this for too long.

I get absolutely no problems with HWA on 12.11. How do you reproduce?

Sorry, HWA works fine for me - I misunderstood and thought that driver-blacklisting disabled HWA.

But doesn't blocking 12.11 also disable HWA unless you force enable it?

From Bug 806991, comment 4:
"However, we'll fall back to D3D9, so you're not going to get 0/1 for hardware accelerated windows."

So all AMD drivers (up to and including the 12.11 betas that I'm running) are blacklisted in Windows 8. But instead of completely disabling HWA, it just falls back to D3D9 acceleration.

Anyone else been seeing this paint issue:

It happens on any chrome surface usually when opening tabs. Like the link hover will go black for example.
