http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2670838 A platform update is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

This article describes a platform update for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This update improves the features and performance of the following components:

Direct2D
DirectWrite
Direct3D

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=35661 says Pre-Release, so it's not the final release, might not want to install this until the final release is out.

Already installed it with Patch Tuesday, no issue on my Windows, so I suggest you can go ahead and try it.

:-k Mmmm... I applied Patch Tuesday yesterday and no sign of this. Quoting the blog posted by NVD:
KB 2670838 is installed as part of the IE10 Release Preview for Windows 7 download. It is also available as a standalone prerelease update.

Could it be that you (Grantius & Zlip792) have installed the IE10 Release Preview for Windows 7? Inquiring minds want to know
“Do you understand what’s going on?”
“Not at all,” he shouted back. “I can almost prove this can’t be happening.”

I'm curious, does anyone know if Azure is disabled automatically when HWA is disabled (layers.acceleration.disabled:true)? Or do I need to disable this separately in gfx.canvas.azure.enabled and gfx.content.azure.enabled (as well as general.smoothScroll which also appears to be accelerated)?
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Just check about:support.
It will tell you when azure is being used, and what backend it is using.

I don't personally have any machines with HWA enabled at the OS level and most of them are old/clunky enough that even if they were they would likely be blacklisted. It's more of a general information curiosity. For instance, if Azure is not disabled by disabling HWA or SafeMode, then that should be added to the KB Diagnostic articles.

Thank you. I was curious because of the crashes people are getting from it, and because smooth scrolling is NOT disabled with either Safe Mode or disabling HWA and it is accelerated.

What is the lowest form of graphics card that Firefox can use?

I'm thinking the Intel I use at work, x4500HD, but wonder if it might be too slow to take full advantage of HWA.

it seems slightly slower to render web pages with it turned on, but I like the fonts it uses.

- XP: gfx.font_rendering.cleartype.always_use_for_content
- Vista/7/8: gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled

Just wondering if we have any update on Azure. I have encounter yet another site which uses long Background image, scrolling is slow and image is broken after certain length.
