The link was posted by smsmith and it is a article that explains the methods of starting Firefox in safemode.
The easiest way is to go to "Help-> Restart with Add-ons disabled"

I dont see the X on your first print screen image, but wont clicking this small X close it from the Safemode page? If this does not work can you post a link that causes this ad opening?
I often take a long windy road to my destination. Upon arrival, I wonder how I missed the shortcut.

I am also suffering that "iReview Ads" popup. It started to appear very recently at the bottom of the pages, most of them are local newspaper pages. I installed and tried all proper Firefox extensions "AdBlock Plus", "AdBlock Plus pop-up addon", "Ads no more". None of them solved the problem. How can I get rid of that annoying popup? I can provide screenshots, if needed.

Did you check in windows programs to see if it was installed there?
