NEW Nightly Firefox Win 64 bit Discussion

Post by joeg »

There hasn't been an x64 build in awhile, apparently due to this.

This problem was discussed, sort of, here.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=814009

Is it possible that the problem isn't being fixed in order to constitute an oblique means of killing the 64-bit build?

So does this mean that David Baron is going to try to fix it?

It seems to me that Mozilla could care less about the 64 Bit Browser.

Do the tinderboxes make any difference?

I don't know what they mean, but if you look at the file sizes (all ca. 1.3mb), it appears these aren't program builds. And all of the titles have the "txt" in them.

As far as I understand, there's been no Win x64 build since the ninth because of the compiler issue.

Yes, thanks. I've downloaded and set up the zip version.

I'm not sure what the "default" update channel is, though.

Does anyone know if this means the 64-bit compiler problem has been solved, or is this a "special" of some type?

As far as I can see, there's still no 64-bit build here.

The link from the tinderbox you are using is for mozilla-central builds known for ages as 'hourlies', although that naming convention is more of less out of date, instead they are builds that are created whenever something is checked into the m-c build tree.
These builds are non-PGO, and are NOT updated unless you download another build and manually install.

the so called 'default' channel was set up several months ago and its been discussed here on the forum several times.

Why hourly builds are being built and Nightly's are not.. I'm not totally clear on, other than the removal of testing seems to have busted a build config file and I'm sure in a day or three or four... someone will 'fix' the build-config file and they will start up again.

Go to C:\Program Files\Nightly\defaults\pref open channel-prefs.js with a text editor and change pref("app.update.channel", "default"); to pref("app.update.channel", "nightly"); and now you are again on the nightly channel.

That 'trick' no longer works. The only way to get back on Nightly update channel is to manually download and install a Nightly.
