wiki.mozilla.org giant spam machine?

Post by colfer »

Seems to be an uncontrolled target of spammers. I looked at Recent Changes and wondered why there were weight loss pictures and such. Looking into the new user log I see 500+ new zombie account per day. Going back month by month I see they have gradually been increasing. A few years ago there were about 500 per month. Some of the more recent ones are not zombies, but put spam on Talk and article pages.

The wiki does not seem to have the template and protection tools of Wikipedia, for example. The protection log is empty, there are only two templates, etc.

Didn't Mozilla do something a few years ago to get spam off the newsgroups? It' s time to take control of the wiki. It probably should be moderated fully (before publication), since no one seems to have time to keep an active watch, and the template tools are not there.

Assuming this isn't you, you should vote for this bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=832642 . You might also see if there is a google mail list for wiki.mozilla.org.
