and the decision was somehow pulled back

I have used unofficial win64 build since last Xmas (I got new pc and it's with 64bit windows 7 ), and so far having good impression for it. It may be placebo, but I feel like all the website are loaded breathing fast on this version.
And future of browser is definitely 64bit program, so it's good that Mozilla decided to keep some room for 64bit Firefox after all
Btw, only one con for using unofficial build is no auto-update. But because SM separately keep program and profile folder, it isn't so hard to do the manual update though.

Such "specialist" can't find 64-bit SeaMonkey build...?
http://wiki.mozilla-x86-64.com/SeaMonkey:Download
OK! Maybe because it's a little bit outdated...

There are not even any Win64 release builds of Firefox yet from Mozilla or contrib. Besides unlike with Mac OSX and Linux you can easily run Win32 builds on 64-bit Windows. Also contrib means they are contributed builds.

Those are random third-party builds as you can build it yourself.

Well, usually yes, but... in this case the Linux x86_64 are built using the same build machines as the other versions, they just end up in the "contrib" directory on purpose as they aren't officially supported (or so I remember). The mozilla-x86-64.com downloads are definitely 3rd-party (non-Mozilla) builds.

All Linux users not a specialists
outdated ? Guess you are not a regular SeaMonkey user. 2.0 is ancient (even Mayans used it)

Re: Mozilla Win64 Builds Are Axed
For anyone that is still interested in this subject, this evening I tried the x64 version of the SM 2.17 final release from the above site - and it appears to work, essentially perfectly!
NoScript works great, as do Flash and Youtube. The only thing I can see that behaves differently relative to the 32-bit version of SM, is that the email client doesn't "remember" which mailbox was selected across restarts.
I have been using this for several hours now on my 16 GB Windows 8 Professional box, and "feel" that page rendering is smoother - no "blind" tests, of course.
Anyway, I backed up my full profile before installing this build, and have left the email server access disabled while doing my initial testing... I am now going to enable it and see what happens.
For anyone else that would like to try one of these x64 builds, it is quite easy - I chose to uninstall the 32-bit 2.17 release build before installing this, even though I don't think it was needed. After the easy install, that looks pretty much the same as the "real" one, I started the "new" SeaMonkey, and everything just worked!
My profile was recognized just the way it always is, and I just started browsing - no cache clearing, nothing.
I will report back in another day or two on the experiment, or sooner if anything quits working properly, of course.

Re: Mozilla Win64 Builds Are Axed
Back with my "final" report for now - the x64 build from the above "Unofficial SeaMonkey Builds" link http://www.htguard.info/ is great!
There is not a single behavior I see which is incompatible or even different from the 32-bit "official" release... the single item I mentioned above turned out to be caused by my own "test" settings: if you have NO mail server enabled to check and download email at startup, then NO mail account will be selected - as soon as I re-enabled my 2 POP3 server connections, SM immediately reverted to the familiar behavior.
And I do continue to insist I have a "smoother" browsing experience - especially when a few non-current pages are loading in the background, the current page shows none of the "stuttering" I have come to expect from the 32-bit version.
I am sticking with these 64-bit builds for the foreseeable future.

Re: Mozilla Win64 Builds Are Axed
I have been running the x64 builds of SeaMonkey from this page since July 2012. They have been superb. There are a few caveats, though not biggies:
(a) I run Windows XP x64 Edition and the installer doesn't work for that OS. Thankfully, there was the 7-Zip version, so I simply created a SeaMonkey Folder in the "Program Files" folder (where the 64-bit repositories are placed), and extracted the 7-Zip file to this folder. I ran the 64-bit executable to check for all of the plugins and updates. It recognized my SeaMonkey x86 profile instantly. Eventually I uninstalled SeaMonkey x86, and my x64 version is left fully working. Whenever I upgrade to a new release, I just clear the SeaMonkey 64-bit program folder, and extract the new 7-Zip file.
(b) There doesn't seem to be a 64-bit QuickTime Plugin or Real Media plugin. I only need the latter to play air checks from The Rock Radio Scrapbook site, and the site admin says he won't upgrade to a new codec. Nonetheless, I can play the files with MPC Home Cinema 32-bit.
(c) v2.16.x was a horrible series of builds. First off the rendering of some pages were significantly slower (but I later realized that was an issue with SeaMonkey x86 as well). Also, there was a strange bold-underline on all of the menu hotkey characters. Initially, I thought this also affected the x86 builds, but it was only relegated to this chap's x64 builds. Thankfully, v2.17.x is back to working wonderfully as before.
Aside from those three puny complaints, this 64-bit SeaMonkey build has been browsing bliss. Most plugins and pages just work. And if you ask me, the browser seem more responsive than it's 32-bit counterpart, at least on this Windows XP x64 system. I hope he keeps up the good work.
Cheers,
