Firefox ESR

Which one?

10.0.12 or 17.0.2?

17.0.2 because 10.0.12 is almost EOL (end of life)

I believe support for the older 10.0esr channel will end when Firefox 19.0 is released and 17.0esr will remain the only esr channel for time being.

James,

Thanks for the info. FYI, I just completed updating from v 10 to v 17 (portable ESR). Ran into a couple of interesting issues. Mozbackup refused categorically to update using its default backup file. Febe's combined file also didn't work well, although parts of it did work. My solution was to to do it all the old-fashioned way. I reinstalled all my favorite extensions manually and then used about config to make all the other changes (such as turning off geolocation, etc.).

Long and short, I have successfully changed from ESR 10 to 17, but it took some work.

Tks again.

From the history of the release notes it gets all of the security updates except the moderate threats that might break something. It more or less has to. If the ESR allowed even a mild security breach among enterprise users Firefox would be toast.

All of the machines I am responsible for at work use ESR. I follow this very carefully.

Yup, I installed ESR versions on over 50 computers, at 3 non-profits (lots of kids and seniors). Now it is time to update them all. <sigh> Any sightings of Kiosk or MSI version that I could tweak?

howdy y'all,

am i misunderstanding how the ESR version updates will be handled? i thot that when ff10esr was finally end-of-life that it would update thru the standard update system to ff17esr.

am i wrong on that?

take care,

Lee_Daily

That is the way I understand it.

I have Firefox 10.0.12 ESR installed, and expect it to update to Firefox 17.0.3 ESR when it becomes available.

My Firefox 10.0.12 ESR updated to Firefox 17.0.3 ESR when I checked for updates today as expected.

No extensions compatibility issues. Oh wait, I don't have any!

Mission Accomplished, and off to delete that version.
