Firefox 19 / Flash 11,6,602,168 crashes with this MSN page

Post by EasterEEL »

http://uk.msn.com/

Causes Firefox to freeze for about 60secs (all tabs). Then yellow banner message that adobe flash plugin has crashed for all the web pages that had flash loaded. Seen this on two PC's today.

IE10 also gets the freeze but does seem to recover after about 60secs.

Have you switched off Hardware Acceleration in both Firefox and in Flash? Do that in Firefox using menu path Tools->Options-Advanced->General. To do it in Flash, right click on the Flash object and select "Settings" from the context menu.

I didn't have any problems with http://uk.msn.com/ until I disabled Adblock Plus, then Firefox temporarily froze and I eventually saw four "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed" boxes underneath one another, on the right side of the page. That tells me its a problem with the Flash ads.

If you don't find a better solution, install the Adblock Plus extension in Firefox:

Thanks tried turning off Hardware Acceleration in Flash and that doesn't solve this problem. Will try turning off in Firefox when I get home tonight.

At parents today and the same problem with Vista (yuck) & IE9, so that's three completely different set-ups I've seen the freeze with. There is something going on with that page and Flash 11,6,602,168.

I didn't experience any problems at all with the site regardless of whether ABP was enabled or not.

Haven't tried it on XP yet R, but we are using different Flash versions (and subscriptions?) 11.2,202.270's the current latest for Linux here.

Edit: On XP/Latest Flash, with ABP Disabled it's freezing and crashing here...Enabled, no problems with site or playing Vids.

I'm seeing Firefox 19 freeze on http://uk.msn.com/ until the Flash plugin eventually crashes, with the latest Flash version, 11.6.602.168 on Windows 7 x64. I don't see the problem when Adblock Plus is enabled, which it normally is on most sites. My Adblock subscription is Fanboy's list.
