None of these suggestions work. The problem is not with Firefox settings or data. What happens is when some sites transfer data in the background, FF will freeze until the transfer is done. Either the sites are overloaded and taking a long time or just crappy sites. FF will unfreeze when the transfer is done. I've seen it happen for things like sites that feed webfonts, to sites that use google analytics. If you see FF freeze, look at the bar in the lower left, and like as not you'll see something doing a really slow transfer - or maybe even a stuck transfer.

There is no reason for FF to freeze just waiting for a transfer. Unfortunately, more and more sites are slowing down because the webmasters insist on transferring Everything, from webfonts to jquery scripts. Somebody feeds them the hokum that transferring from all these content sites is faster, but so far as I can see, it's slowing the web down.
