I am running TB 17.0.6 on Windows 8.
Recently I tried to send an eMail and I got message that sent is full and I need to compact.
When I try to compact "all" I see progress bar showing INBOX is compacting....and then the compacting stops.
If I right click on the sent folder.... nothing happens?
Any help would be appreciated...

Re: Compact Sent Mail....
delete the contents of Sent, or move the contents to another folder.
keep the Inbox empty or nearly empty.
enable Auto Compact

Re: Compact Sent Mail....
Ok...let me see if I read this correctly.....
So I go to
user.....app data....roaming....Thunderbird....profiles....mail....local folders...then move sent to where?
Do I only move one folder? What do I do with sent.msf?
Thanks..
Jeff

Re: Compact Sent Mail....
in Thunderbird, right click Local Folders
click New Folder ........... Name: [ old Sent ]
move the contents of the Sent folder, to old Sent folder.
it would be easiest to just delete most of the old mail from the Sent folder, if you have no need to save the old sent mail.

- move the contents only, of the Sent folder, not the folder itself

That's essentially what I've done...but I would have liked to have kept only one sent folder....
It was curious to me the program was asking me to "compact"....and the command to compact was not carried out.
I use eMail to archive many business...
My inbox and sent folders contain tens of thousands of eMails.
Do you know of an eMail client that does not "object" to HUGE folders?
Someone mentioned "Windows Live Mail"
Thanks..

are you talking about the second time you compacted the Sent folder?
if you compact the same folder, two times in fairly rapid succession, the second time it will not compact because it is already compacted and there is nothing to compact

Re: Compact Sent Mail....
the first time I was prompted to compact....I right clicked on the Sent folder....and nothing happened....nada.
Then I moved a couple thousand eMails out of the Sent folder....and it DID "compact" (progress bar etc)...but all I seemingly had to do was move the mail to a new folder.
Anyway,I am not too concerned about "features" but would really like an eMail client that is "insensitive" to folder size...
I would like to "consolidate" all of my eMails since Windows95 into one client....
The eMails would come from Eudora, Uotlook (not Express) and Thunderbird.

Any thoughts?

Re: Compact Sent Mail....
you've been lucky so far ...... many others doing that, not so muchMy inbox .... contain tens of thousands of eMails.
do you mean that it did the compaction automatically? you would expect that if you have it set on Auto Compactthe first time I was prompted to compact....I right clicked on the Sent folder....and nothing happened....nada.

Re: Compact Sent Mail....
Here is the chain of events..
1. Tried to send an eMail in TB
2. I then received a "prompt" saying the sent folder was full....blah blah...
3. I then tried to "compact" the sent folder by right clicking on the folder and electing the "compact" option
Clear so far?
4. After "clicking" on compact, I expected to see a progress bar at the bottom of the field saying: Sent Compacting.
5. It did not appear the Sent Folder was being compacted!
6. I then selected "Compact folders" from the tool bar.
7. The program appeared to compact the INBOX....only...
8. After the Inbox was "compacted" and the progress bar said "compacting complete" I tried to resend a message.
9. I received the same error message as before ie "Sent folder is full....blah blah"
10. I then right clicked on the Sent folder and elected "compact"....and nothing happened.
11. Then I came to this site and posted a message asking for help.
I hope this is clear...and thanks.
