What's bad about Outlook

Post by nrm »

Should it prove popular, this thread is intended to capture ideas about
the weaknesses of Microsoft Outlook, so that a name for Phoenix can
reflect the opposite.

Please put any observations about outlook here, so others can review them.

The most obvious ones are:

- It's massive and complex
- It communicates viruses.

Pleae consider Outlook's Reputation, not its Functionality. Names are
about reputation.

You may not be aware of this, but Phoenix is a web browser and Outlook is an email application. If you're just looking for something unrelated to compare Phoenix favourably with, I suggest Hitler, who was also bad.

My main complaint about Outlook is that you can't turn off HTML rendering. This would be a rather silly thing to compare with Phoenix.

Compare with IE instead

Agreed; if you really want to try to choose a name based on a comparison to another, more buggy product that shall not remain nameless for very long, why not compare with IE instead?

The three main complaints I have against IE are:
[1] Too tightly integrated into the OS; when it crashes (and it does!) it takes the whole system down with it! (I'm running Win98 by the way)
[2] No way to block unrequested popups without a third-party add-on
[3] No tabbed browsing

How you can take those ideas and come up with a name is beyond me, but if it helps...

whats the point of this topic, besides the usual MS bashing, and besides that OE and PX are two totally unrelated programs?

So if you call someone an idiot, and they really are an idiot, that's not bashing - it's the truth, right?

Calling someone an idiot is qualitative, counting the security holes in Outlook and IE is quantitative, so this is not a proper comparison.
