Mozilla is proposing that the Firefox browser collects data on users' interests to pass on to websites.

You have to think Mozilla has some sort of death wish because even if this worked perfectly people will just see it as another money making privacy issue.
Which in truth it probably is.

I would personally doubt this. I think we are seeing the usual relentlessly applied vaudevillianism.

Telling web sites what you are interested in seems to be something which has been done for years, quietly.
Whether it's Google tailoring ads off your GPS or IP location, your IP sending you to a "Help You Find it" Page, collected history of where you've visited or having "Favorites" in your tool-bar, read by the system. Only drawback to this is it's misuse and the narrowing of what you perceive as an open Internet, not restricted by marketing whimsy or redirects to "buy this" pages instead of where you want to go.

Bad move on the part of Mozilla if true.
