I'm getting this error in the latest SeaMonkey Nightly (2.22a1), all other add-ons have been disabled.

Applying this change will fix the error.
The line-numbers will be different in 0.8.0.8, though.

"Open recently closed windows and tabs menu" button didn't work properly. It's always restore the last closed tab, even if I select second one from the list.

I use latest Nightly and latest Session Manager development version

I have the same problem but I'm using Firefox v23.

Almost every time I close firefox with alt+f4 or the x button, upon restart the Session Manager crash recovery window shows up and asking me to select a backup session even though Firefox was closed down properly. This does not seem to happen if I shutdown with File->Exit.

This problem doesn't happen as often with 0.8.0.8 dev version, but still does once in a while and it's driving me crazy. ](*,)

Please help. ](*,)

Did some testing with different versions of FF (21,23) and SM (0.8.0.8, 0.8.0.7, 0.8.0.6), all have the same problem. I have to use File->Exit, can't use x button top right window or alt+f4 or SM will think FF crashed. Only way to avoid this is to "use ff built-in crash recovery"... but I don't want that ](*,)

I enabled Logging and compared sessions that shutdown fine and sessions that were considered "crashed" by SM:
When this bug happens, under Add-on preferences: section of the log, the line old_startup_page = 1 is missing and then this happens
SMSessionManagerHelper:_check_for_crash: Last Crashed = true)

When everything works the line old_startup_page = 1 shows up under Add-on preferences: and the crashed state is set to false
SMSessionManagerHelper:_check_for_crash: Last Crashed = false)


Before I upgraded to 23 and started having this problem I was using ff 17 or 18.
Now using FF 21 and SM 0.8.0.7.

what does old_startup_page = 1 mean and how can i ensure it's not missing in preferences? :?: :cry: ](*,)

old_startup_page = 1 is Session Manager's backup of the browser startup_page preference. I believe "1" is if you have the browser set to load the homepage. This is likely a side effect of your problem and not the cause as that preference is set when Firefox is shutting down. If the shutdown doesn't occur properly, it's treated as a crash.

Session Manager actually let's Firefox determine if it crashed or not. Firefox does so by checking to see if the state was set to "stopped" in the sessionstore.js file, which Firefox does on a proper shutdown. The reason "use ff built-in crash recovery" is working is Firefox will automatically load the last session if a crash occurs less than twice within an hour.

I'd like to see the log when the problem occurs, but my gut tells me Firefox isn't shutting down properly when you are closing the last window. I believe there is a SeaMonkey bug for that problem. I haven't heard of a Firefox one though.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I have the browser set to load homepage at startup which is a customized about:blank page like this one, http://userstyles.org/styles/15598.

I use Tab Mix Plus and I have the options:
"Do not close window when closing last tab"
"When close last tab replace with -homepage"
checked so I don't accidentally close entire window with ctrl+w.

I don't think FF itself is actually crashing because when I click Help->Firefox Health Report, it shows "0 crashes". Also, upon further testing i found that this bug only occurs when I alt+f4 or press X button with only the homepage(custom about:blank) open as last tab. For example, if I press alt+f4 with Google open as last tab then this bug will not happen.

I'm pretty sure the "about:blank" is the problem. There's an issue in Firefox, where it doesn't shut down properly if the last last window is closed and it contains only an about:blank.

Having an issue with SM where suddenly all of my sessions have disappeared! I checked in the Session Folder and there is nothing in it suddenly. Also when I booted up Firefox for some reason it opened all of my Addon default pages that pop up when you freshly installed an addon as if they hadn't been set and configured all this time. All I had done previous to this was update Google Chrome when it asked me to which I occasionally use but no changes were made to Firefox.

Recently I've observed that Firefox kinda hangs when accessing the Library shortly after startup:just to be sure,does Session Manager interact in any way with the places.sqlite file,in other words as saved sessions begin to pile up,can this affect the Library database in some way?

I would guess no,but I just had to ask to be sure.

(BTW,the Library is fully functional for the entire session after that initial lag.)

SocXiety,

It sounds like your Firefox profile had files deleted out of it. If the prefs.js file is deleted all the settings go back to the default. Also if the sessions folder was deleted, your sessions will be gone. I don't know why that would happen, but if it did, there's no way to recover the sessions unless you backed up your computer.

Session Manager doesn't do anything with paces.sqlite.

No clue why it would happen either. I even tried to use Recuva to find the files and see if I could undelete them but they can't even be found. They just disappeared entirely.

I really appreciate all the work that goes into Session Manager. For someone like me that sprouts new tabs with every breath I take, it makes browsing so relaxing knowing that a random Firefox crash isn't wiping out my external memory.

With 93 pages of comments in this thread, I'm hoping I am not asking a well-worn question, but I couldn't think of any way to ask this question that would work as a search. When Firefox is restarting and Session Manager takes over to present the complete list of windows and tabs it plans to restore, I love this screen. I can see all the tabs and windows in one glance, and I can dump old tabs with a single click without being overwhelmed by actually displaying the actual page on that tab. Since I easily can have 15+ windows open with a total of 130++ tabs, that initial display is so useful.

Here is my question: Can I bring up that display during normal operation? Or is there another extension that does the same? It would be super useful to have that display at any time, with the ability to close any number of tabs and/or windows with just a click on a check box. I don't see that all tabs list in the Session Manager menus, but maybe I'm missing it. If it isn't there, is it hard to make that screen that displays at session restore available as a menu item showing the current active session?

And since I'm probably asking for new functionality, I would be dancing in the streets if this all windows and tabs display of a session also included (optionally would be fine) a column that showed the date that that tab was created. I'm not sure that information is available in Firefox, but it would be ridiculously helpful to be able to see that, among my tabs being restored by Session Manager, three of my fifteen windows have tabs that were opened a month ago and have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Yes you can bring up the load session screen at any time by going to the Session Manager and then Session Manager and Load Session. Simply click on any session and the windows and tabs will display in the pane at the bottom.

Unfortunately tabs don't really have dates associated with them so there's no real way to show when tabs were created. It is possible to keep track of the time a tab last loaded, but that would add a lot of overhead to tab loading.

Good day there and thanks for session manager! It's really a very helpful app.

As it was mentioned in the previous post, "With 93 pages of comments in this thread, I'm hoping I am not asking a well-worn question"

Since yesterday and after recovering from a FF crash, I have not been able to find SM in the Tools Menu... I have been searching all the menus just in case but it is missed. After having backed up all the sessions (those located in my profile directory) I proceed to remove and install again SM (restarting FF in between); I also tried deleting the .xpi directly in the extensions directory just in case would have got corrupted but unfortunately SM is still missing from Tools Menu... I also got into the SM options windows (through FF add-ons list) and configuring the Display options in different ways but unsuccessfully.

Can you give some clues about what it can be happening or some steps to look deeper into the problem? Is there another way to start SM without clicking in Tools Menu?

I'm using FF 23.0 + SM 0.8.0.8 in W7 Pro SP1
