FreeMoz Internet Suite. It's a free Mozilla internet suite. This name builds off the name recognition of Mozilla and avoids the taint of Netscape. Edit: One downside is that there's already a FreeMoz Directory Project.

MozSuite. Short for "Mozilla Suite". The name doesn't seem to be currently used. It's fairly self-explanatory and builds off the Mozilla name recognition.

I should also point out that anything that ends in -zilla will likely have legal problems. The owners of the Godzilla trademark will almost certainly challenge any name that ends in -zilla, and I don't think we're going to have any money for legal costs...

Another suggestion. Want to keep away from Nav, Moz, illa, etc (not that I dont like ... just too close for complaints)

Strada - Italian for road. Other language speakers can chime in for words meaning road, highway, etc ... might be a way to go (pun intended).

Perhaps something meaning re-birth - phoenix would work ... no wait! Sorry had to inject some humor :P

Why is it that so many other open source projects allow the name of the software to be retained when redistributed and Mozilla.org does not? Is it open source or not?

If "zilla" is usable, Openzilla sounds good. Zillagator or Navizilla for the navigator, Zillaposer or Compozilla for the composer. The "zilla" suffix shouldn't be a legal issue. There's bugzilla using it.
If "zilla" has to be avoided, how about Open Websuite? Component names:
Open Navigator
Open Composer
I would like to see "zilla" retained in some form to show its origins and/or "Open" involved in the new name to promote Open Source.

Dragon

Post by MerlinHK »

I'd like to re-iterate the name I proposed on npm.seamonkey - Dragon.

The connection to the original Seamonkey is obvious, but does not violate any Mozilla trademarks. Also, designing a good logo would be easy.

However, I also like OpenSuite.

FYI - Teleport is probably not a good idea, as there's already an "offline browsing" program using that name.

Distance from Mozilla

Post by xandman »

Why does just about every name circulate around animal names and the such? Haven't we had enough of that? I think this is a good opportunity to distance the suite from FF / TB. It's time to take it in a completely different direction as far as the name goes. Besides, most people who have never heard of it immediately think of MAZOLA, the cooking oil. [-X

Perhaps something on the opposite end. Something from the book of Mozilla itself. Mammon? Legion? We could even include our own scripture!

Yeah, I'm bitter about the decision.
