Will it be using Windows' own MP3-directshow-decoder, regardless of its merit, or will it use the one with the highest merit?

EDIT: Tested it myself: Highest merit. Why not limit the program to the built-in Microsoft-decoder, to keep potential support-problems at a minimum?
In my case, Firefox was using some ridiculously outdated DShow-filter from a program I've installed years ago.

It look like Windows Vista should be using windows media foundation, not direct show.

What happen if you disable the directshow in about:config?

For whom it may concern, if you want to disable the built-in player under Linux, you have to set
media.gstreamer.enabled to false
in about:config

In case anyone comes here from google, changing media.play-stand-alone to false is now the current setting to disable the internal mp3 player in firefox.
