"Sending of message failed." Part 2.

Post by plonkplonk »

From my post yesterday:

I'm using TB 24.1.0 and this error message just started appearing today. (I've been using this version w/o any problem until today.) I get this message when I'm replying to an email; I have not gotten it when I send out a fresh message.

"Sending of message failed.
Unable to open the temporary file C:\\Users\username\appdata\local\temp\nsmail,tmp. Check your “Temporary Directory” setting."

The strange thing is that when I clear the error message and hit send again, the message is sent!

I find that my hitting send on a reply no longer works; I now get the same error message over and over again.

Upon further checking, the "C:\\Users\username\appdata\local\temp" folder has a series of "nsemail-X" files; there is one for each failed reply attempt. (X is an increasing integer used to differentiate the files.)

Any further ideas?

Thanks.

Sounds like an old nsmail.tmp file got corrupted and the program couldn't open it.

Try just deleting them all, including the one without the -X if there is one. They are temporary files that are not needed after the message is sent, with legacy filenames carried over from when TBird evolved from Netscape.

I was about to report that I have the same problem, makaiguy, when I saw your response. Worked for me! Thanks.

BTW this started yesterday when I installed v 24.1.0

Doug, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it didn't work for me... Bummer.

Same here. How do we revert to an earlier version?
