New Extension: Mozilla Sidebar Support in FB

Post by jedbro »

Well, you can now forget my extension, something BETTER has come out!

<a href="http://basic.mozillanews.org/">Basic</a>, from MozillaNews has created an extension called <a href="http://basic.mozillanews.org/">WebBar</a> for Firebird that Allows
one to add/manage Mozilla/Netscape Sidebars. This is awesome!
So you can now add Gemal's, the Netscape Dev sidebars and more ;)

<a href="http://basic.mozillanews.org/">Check it out</a>!!

********* OLD POST **************
<a href="http://gemal.dk/">Gemal</a> today made available a Mozilla Sidebar for easy access to his <a href="http://gemal.dk/mozilla/blogupdates.html">Bogupdates page</a>. Since there is/was no sidebar support, I threw this little extension together that will add a Sidebar to the
View>Sidebar>"MozBlogs".

You can get it <a href="http://downloads.mozdev.org/extensionroom/jed/mozBlogUpdates.xpi">here</a> (all mirror may not be updated, keep trying)

Is there a way to make a bookmark on the personal toolbar that will let me launch the sidebar? Would be easier to access then going through those menus.

Hmm, not to sure ;)
But you can open it in a tab with
chrome://mozblogupdates/content/mozblogupdates.xul
But that really defeats the purpose of the extension

perhaps chrisgeleven wants a 'Bookmark Sidebar'-type toggle button for this sidebar - not so much a bookmark

Should be able to execute the show/hide with a bookmarklet, yes?

After you install it you need to go to View, Toolbars, Customize... And put the WebBar button on a toolbar.

Is there any way to just use the icon or just use the text for the button? because it's very large compared to the rest of my theme.

Is there anyway to add sidebars to it? It doesn't show my bookmarks, and the only functions I'd use are history and search --- I'd still have to open my other sidebars (Bookmarks, Download, Quicknotes) seperately, which defeats the entire purpose, doesn't it?

I'm guessing right now there's no way to do it, so here's a better question: how do I remove it?

Yeah, seems history/bookmarks doesn't work.

What this extension is realy usefull for is Sidebars from dmoz.org and other places. I personally use it for Gemal's Blog update page.

For removal, it depends where you installed it (profile/chrome)
but in the mean time, just disable it.

Cheers

WebBar

Post by Simpson »

When i opened the sidebar and tried to open the various sidebar tabs, it is now stuck displaying "Tinderbox: Seamonkey Ports" . I can't get it to show anything else. In fact, the little spiderweb isn't showing either. Any suggestions to restore the original webbar. By the way, my "What's related" also is flickering.

I installed Webbar and ran it. The "What's Related" also blinks for me. However, the biggest problem is that when i chose the Tinderbox Seamonkey:Ports tab, it locked the webbar and i couldn't switch back to any of the other options. So i uninstalled it by deleting the folder (used Explorer ....). Tried to re-install. Even though i see it in my list of extensions (Installed in the Firebird chrome), it doesn't appear in the View>Sidebar> list nor in the customize icon pack. Any suggetsions?
