MIME Type not Supported
Hi, I'v done some searching here and other places, but obviously not finding what I'm looking for. I am on Mac using Firefox 25.0.1 and on a couple of my webcams I monitor, i am now getting "Video Format or MIME type not supported". I have what i think are all the necessary plugin's installed. It works if i use Safari or Chrome. Anyone know what I can do to correct this?

Can you provide a link to one of the cams ? Assuming they are safe for public consumption.

http://www.liveduvalstreet.com/
or

They still work on a Windows install, and were working on the Mac until the recent upgrade.

these two along with the others are vacation type views. Since we still have to work for a living we are forced to live vicariously.TheVisitor wrote:... Assuming they are safe for public consumption.

Re: MIME Type not Supported
.
I tried this in FF on Mac OSX 10.9 and got the message "Video Format or MIME type not supported". Let me poke around. I will post back if I find something.
EDIT: I found that this works with Safari, Chrome and Opera on OSX; but, not Firefox.

After Googling around it seems like the state of support for this type of video stream on different browser/OS combinations is not uniform. One bit of info I found suggested imbedding a JW Player in the page. You might want to pursue that to see if it leads to anything.

There's a troubleshooting link on that site that recommends Flip4Mac. I used to have that installed, but when I updated to Mavericks, it was deemed incompatible and disabled. There may be a newer version available.

I have flip4mac installed and the version I have (3.1.0.1) works with Maverick. However, it doesn't resolve the issue.

Yes, I have Flip4Mac installed as well. That was one of the first updates i looked for when I did the Maverick upgrade. As mentioned earlier, Chrome and Safari work perfectly, its just Firefox that I get the error on. I am now in the process of checking out JW Player to see if that has any impact.

Re: MIME Type not Supported
I checked the Flip4Mac plugin. As Robert said, I have 3.1.0.1 installed. When I check the download site for F4M it shows version 3.2.0.16 as the current version. I download and install it, but my FF plugin is still 3.1.0.1 and it shows the latest update date as March 2013. I even tried to manually uninstall the 3.1 version but I cant seem to get rid of it and replace it with a newer one. I went to the FF plugin troubleshooting guide and followed all the instruction. This is getting very challenging!

Re: MIME Type not Supported
Look at the Flip4Mac panel in your system preferences. I just installed it, and it shows version 3.2.0.16 there, but the media plugin in FF is listed as 3.1.0.1 and is listed as being up to date.
Here's the test page for plugins. It works playing a WMV, but doesn't work on that link you supplied. I still get that same MIME not supported message.
The Flip4Mac site list the sys req as being OS 10.7 - 10.8 ? I dunno...

On Windows 7 Pro 64bit, FF plays what's there using Adobe Flash. Is the site not trying to play video using Flash when it sees a Mac OS or something?

It doesn't appear to be Flash. Normally on a Flash object, if I right click it, one of the options will be "about Flash", but this doesn't show that. The page also says it's compatible with iPhones, which don't do Flash, right?
I don't know anything about streaming, but the source (that I got from Safari) looks kind of like HTML5 to me:
The only reason I mentioned flip4Mac is because that's what they specified.

Did some poking around. I tried http://www.liveduvalstreet.com/ on my iPhone and it works. I also found this (couple of years old),
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2338877&p=11373629#p11373629
The mime type mentioned Content-Type: application/vnd.apple.mpegurl is what the site (liveduvalstreet.com) sends. jscher2000 is fairly knowledgeable, you might PM him and point him to this thread since his comment is a couple of years old.
FWIW the mime type application/vnd.apple.mpegurl is not supported by the QT plug-in used by FF on Mac. I notice that Chrome uses the Adobe Flash player to play this stream; not sure how Chrome gets that association. Note the HTML served to Chrome looks like this
On the other hand the the HTML served to FF looks like this
Would seem like the site sends HTML dependent on the browser; however, I really don't have the time to go through the code to see how it is done.
