Your personal experience with new technology should never be mistaken for the full reality of the situation. That kind of thinking is exactly why a whole lot of big websites keep having to back-pedal on 1200px fixed-width website designs. It's also the kind of thinking that keeps leading people to use media queries to attempt to detect Mobile, which does NOT work as larger Mobile screens are now currently pushing low resolution monitor widths, and it seriously breaks Windows Snap feature for site-by-side windowing. You are not the end consumer.

As far as the specifics goes, I just don't think it's worth supporting for small sites until it works.

My kind of thinking is that most video and JS (and mobile detection) can buzz right off, actually. My problem with Flash (as a user, yes!) these days isn't instability or memory use — that seems to be reasonable enough since version 10 — but the fact that the program itself is malware. If you don't pay close attention it'll install toolbars and Chrome and who knows what else. At the same time, would I like most uses of Flash to be replaced by HTML5 VIDEO+JS? Perish the thought. I would like most of them to just go away, period.

So not only is format support a scattered mess, basic JS player support is broken in at least one place on every browser. I noticed they didn't mention "loop"... maybe that was dropped from the spec because it was so problematic?
