open file after download, automatically

Post by tdrs »

Hi,

I learned to know a very practical and tiny feature while working with Chrome and I would like to find something similar for Firefox.
In Chrome - when you start downloading a file - you can click on the already running download and choose to automatically open the file when it finished downloading ('Open when done' or just click again on the file like you would when it has finished).

Anyone knows an extension which does something similar? (or maybe some discussion about it on bugzilla, dunno)

Have a nice day

Only practical if it is a file and download source you trust to run before scanning on Windows.

OpenDownload²

Note that if you change the temp location it is downloaded to, make sure it is not a place that has important files and especially not desktop as they would get deleted after purge.

I hereby necro my own post to ask the same question again. Since quantum was introduced the extension stopped working.
Maybe there is another way to do something like this without xul?

(thank you again James, your solution worked like a charm for years)

Kind regards
