Migrating Bookmark Toolbar

Post by ray2047 »

I have a new install of Seamonkey in Linux on a virtual machine. I was able to copy my bookmarks as HTML but i would also like to copy my bookmark toolbar (2.31 Linux vs to 2.31 Linux vs). Read the tutorials but am just lost. If it maters the Seamonkey I am copying the bookmarks bar to is in a VirtualBox Linux guest on a Linux host that contains the Seamonkey with the Bookmark bar I am trying to copy.

What file contains the bookmark toolbar file? Can I just copy the file from one install and replace it with the copied file in the other install.

It's included in the bookmarks.html file you already exported. When I did it on my Win 8.1 system, it was right near the top.

Code: Select all

You mean the HTML string:

Code: Select all

TOOLBAR&sort
don't you? I don't see that in mine.

Code: Select all

Found in places.sqlite (along with your bookmarks, & other stuff).
So how about just coping places.sqlite from one Profile to the other, outright (with SeaMonkey closed).

(Backup.
And also copy over the /bookmarkbackups/ folder.
So that you have a lessor chance of running into Bug 1093623 - Bookmarks are lost when upgrade 2.31 from 2.30.
Sure hope the patch for that makes it into 2.32, as it does work.)

In the HTML file, thinking it would be a place within here:

Code: Select all

Does Linux use places.sqlite like Windows does?

Exporting and importing bookmarks.html should work.

Well I tried moving places.sqlite but when I started Seamonkey it labeled it corrupt and made a new one. Really appreciate the help but I am at the point where it is easier to just recreate it. I had to do that a few weeks ago when my bookmarks and bookmark bar vanished and Restore no longer worked so I'm getting use to recreating it. .

If there aren't too many Bookmarks Toolbar entries, you can open both instances, side by side or whatever, & drag from one to another.

Because it is running in VirtualBox that won't work. (Tried just to see.)

P.S. The formatting of the forum is odd today. Tested in two browsers and it is twice the wdith of my screen. I'm having to side scroll to write or read. Edit displays as expected. It is just the main screen.

I noticed that too.
It is the second "code" box in this post, viewtopic.php?p=13947683#p13947683, but I'm not sure why that's causing it?

I noticed similar on another forum, [bug] Board Layout Busted if JavaScript is Blocked.
(In that case, with JavaScript disabled the issue ensued. Here, JavaScript makes no difference.)
