I take the security of my systems very seriously. Norton, like McAfee have thousands of employee working on just the security side. Spend millions to make sure their detections are the best that can be. So if given the choice between the large ones and all the other small operations, the choice is obvious. All major security vendor have programs where new release can be submitted to them for addition to white lists. You should take advantage of it. You may also wish to get certificate for your releases.

Kaspersky, which isn't at all small, occasionally breaks things but does not have a false positive problems for the most part. Nor do most free AVs.

Maybe if they spent 1,000,1, this wouldn't be an integral part of every release's release notes:

"Norton/Symantec anti-virus scanners may report that some parts of SeaMonkey (e.g. the file freebl3.dll) are suspicious. If you downloaded SeaMonkey from one of the official download sites, this is a false alarm. You might experience problems with secure websites when this happens. To fix the issue, instruct your anti-virus software to ignore these files (and move them out of quarantine) and/or switch to another anti-virus software and reinstall SeaMonkey."

Is Lightning broken for anyone else? The update auto installed Lightning 3.8b1, but when I go to the calendar view, I just get a blank view.

Norton Sonar removed SeaMonkey when updating to 2.33. Had to reinstall 2.32.

When you try to install 2.33 , soon as u get that error, click on the norton icon, and you should see a way to ignore the error. Thats what I did. I remember a few versions ago, something similar to this happen.

I would take the calendars not being colored over the blank view I am getting. I'm seeing more this: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1136890

This is a screen from the bug, same as what I see.

That bug was duped to a bug that was resolved in December 2014.

Today's 3.8b2 update hasn't changed anything.

If you are running Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1, and you are seeing detections of the following types:
* Bloodhound.SONAR.*
* SONAR.*
* Suspicious.*
* Proactive Threat Protection
* Client Protection
... on any of your internal or business critical applications, we would recommend that you exclude the file(s) in question in addition to reporting the detections to us via our False Positive Submission form.

Note that they know there is a problem with their Heuristic scanning. Also not that the page isn't easy to find since it is from the Enterprise Support. group. Also note that SeaMonkey is a public program and could be easily tested by Symantec/Norton well before it is released. NortonSupport is basically asking us to do work that Symantec should be doing.

Especially considering that at this point in the game there are more different companies building AV programs than building web browsers.... then again as the evidence I posted above indicates, some of these folks cannot tell the difference between an OS and a virus, so you have to kind of take it all to be worth a grain of salt.

Vineeth, you could monitor either http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/candidates/ or http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/ for upcoming releases, if there is some automated way to take care of it. SeaMonkey provides both executable installers and ZIP versions for Windows.
