I got hit by that bug. Took a while to find out the exact nature of the problem, but I first noticed that some mailing lists stopped accepting my messages. And looking at the sent emails showed that my email was empty in the sent messages. Finding a cure was not easy :-( Too bad that I did not find the correct bug yesterday, as the info about the relevant pref had just been added there few hours earlier.

I finally solved the problem by going into that account's settings and selected "manage identities": I created new identity for me and set that as the default identity.

And yes, my profile is "unusual" as it is really old and has been imported in 2006 from Eudora, which seems to be one explanation why that non-standard pref has been originally created. ( https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.c ... 152045#c21 )

Is it a known issue that Thunderbird is accessing local DNS rather than remote DNS when using a proxy. This affects only the mail side of things, more specifically POP, stuff that goes out via http and https works. Or at least it seems to on a clean profile my ancient and messy profile seems to have issues.

My setup worked fine I think the last working build was around the 20th of January after that DNS requests that would be put out via the proxy began being pushed to the local dns.

I've tested this on both Windows and Linux 64 bit builds both with my standard profile and a clean profile.

I should add that the date that things went funny was around the same time that new proxy handling code got into Firefox Nightly. I noticed as I use the foxy proxy addon and it stopped working around then. I also tried sticking the foxy proxy addon into Thunderbird it has a nice logging option for figuring out whats happening, with builds after 2015-01-20 nothing shows even for mail connections that work while http and https does show. In short I think that the changes to the network backend have caused the mail handling to code stop working properly with proxies. In my testing I haven't checked what happens if the dns is returned valid. I only know that the dns leaks.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to be posting this I kinda forgot about this issue till now and wanted people more familiar to check that it wasn't some quirk of my system/setup/general idiocy.

Edited noticed that my messy profile has issues with the http/s side of things.

@ -Arch-

Thunderbird developers will tell you that Candidate builds are not releases, therefore TB38.0b2 is not out.

Likely won't be out until b1 updates, or you see it here.

This is an old bug that I too recently started experiencing:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=578017

The reply window is opening up in the background when replying to messages opened from a standalone window. Can anyone confirm? Strange since this wasn't problem for me in 31, it only started after upgrading to 38. Does it in Safe Mode also.

Another new problem in 38 is that some messages from yahoo IMAP are opening up blank when viewing them in plain text. They can be read in view source. Again, wasn't happening in 31. I hate to downgrade and hopefully don't have to.

Can't confirm that bug in my Thunderbird 38.0b2.

Opened 5 messages in a new window, and the compose window opened in the foreground each time.

I don't have a Yahoo account anymore. Closed it when they announced they were not honoring "Do Not Track" settings.

Well, 38 is a beta version and can be unstable. I have both, along with Daily on my system.

I like 38, even if I am not able to cross post and set followups to newsgroups, and the Lighning issue where I can't create a new calendar and set the calendar's color.

In one of the posts from that bug the problem is the reply button to the right of the From line. So I just put another reply button on the toolbar and it works fine again. Seems like an old bug they never got around to fixing.

Err, that's weird - Firefox release drivers merged 38.0 into mozilla-release already:
http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-release/pushloghtml?changeset=d27c9211ebb3
in contrast, comm-release hasn't.

Thus, be careful with any release build with changesets pushed April 23 or later (version mix!).

Edit: On a second thought, this affects SeaMonkey but not Thunderbird, which doesn't have tinderbox builds from comm-release; unless you build it yourself, that is.

Bug 1157437 - Build Thunderbird 38 betas from mozilla-release
rkent wrote:Firefox has a funny plan going on, where they have the future mozilla-esr38 in mozilla-release while the future Firefox 38.0.5 is in mozilla-beta (which will not merge to mozilla-esr38)

So we need to build Thunderbird betas for TB 38 from mozilla-release and not from mozilla-beta.

I'm wondering why they didn't just open mozilla-esr38 (which is needed anyway) and solve the problem cleanly in this way? Probably they don't want to spend the effort to set up builders etc. just yet...

Mozilla Thunderbird - Help us test the latest beta

1 problem with that website is, they dont Link to 64bit Nightly Linux Builds

2ndly, i only communicate with 1 Mozilla Dev, that also works for Redhat also.
