This would be an awful lot of pages to rename, though... :doubt: (all preference settings, for example).

It looks like the lower case change breaks links to another KB article when just the article name is specified and it doesn't have a dash in it. It doesn't appear to break a link to another article if you also specify a display name. Links to external web pages (not a KB article) aren't effected.

I had to replace [[MozBackup]] with [[MozBackup | MozBackup]] , [[profiles.ini]] with [[Profiles.ini_file | profiles.ini]] and [[profile folder]] with [[Profile_folder | profile folder]] in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup to fix several broken links. [[Profile folder - Firefox]] , [[Profile folder - Thunderbird]] and [[Profile folder - SeaMonkey]] did not break. The previous change to that article had been October 6, 2013.

I just had to replace [[profile folder]] with [[Profile_folder | profile folder]] in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls . I didn't edit any other articles yet.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Special:Version states we are using version 1.6.8 of MediaWiki. That was released 2006-07-08. The latest version is 1.24.1 (released on 2014-12-17). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Version states Wikipedia is using 1.25wmf14 (156d214) 08:08, 3 February 2015 of MediaWiki. I assume that is a nightly build. Perhaps we need to update to the latest released version of MediaWiki.

I've tried the upgrade a few times, and it just fails so I think we're stuck. I will turn off lowercase for now, PM me if we want it back.

Besides breaking links like [[profile folder]], [[mimeTypes.rdf]] [[about:config]] and [[about: plugins]], templates were also broken, such as the warning at the top of plugin articles and the templates to place images on the right. I edited a couple of articles that were affected, http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash when I first noticed the problem but stopped there since there are too many articles that use such links and templates to fix them all.

Thanks for turning off lowercase.

Please change page Getting_an_SMIME_certificate

Post by AMucha »

Hello!
I am currently looking into s/mime and x509 certificates.

While checking your page

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Getting_an_SMIME_certificate
I found a few old links:

CAcert OK
GlobalSign apparently has no longer free email-certificates
Secorio link for free email certificates is now https://secure.comodo.net/products/fron ... 9&days=365
So they are part of comodo now.

Start.com OK
TC TrustCenter is no longer operating
Verisign: the free certificate is only valid for 25 days

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.link.open_external
The aforementioned preference no longer exists (which is duly mentioned in the article). Please create a new article for the current preference, browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external, and add it to the about:config entries article as well.
https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-release/…firefox.js#l435

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Popups_not_blocked#Conventional_popups
Conventional popups can be blocked using the Popup Blocker Settings extension.

It would be preferable to link to a reviewed extension on the Firefox Add-ons site rather than a third-party site.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/strict-pop-up-blocker/
Alternatively, you can use the NoScript extension to allow only certain sites to use JavaScript, or you can use the Adblock or Adblock Plus extension with filters applied. (Current extension is Plus)

Adblock was abandoned years ago and is no longer listed on the Firefox Add-ons site. The sentence between parentheses doesn't make any sense and the link is invalid.
A more effective way of blocking unwanted pop-ups is to install the "Adblock Plus" extension along with subscribing through its options to a filter such as "EasyList"…

Installing Adblock Plus automatically subscribes you to EasyList; there's no point in telling people to do that manually.
To extend the capabilities of "Adblock Plus" you might also install Adblock Plus: Element Hiding Helper" extension to block specific elements on a page.

First of all, the extension was renamed to “Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus” a long time ago. Secondly, it has nothing to do with blocking pop-up windows. That's what Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon is for.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Testing_plugins

Windows Media Test at ce.uwex.edu

That link is dead, it just redirects to some generic support page that doesn't appear to test for Windows Media Player plugin.

Step 4, for the mac should also include "Shift + Backspace" as 'Delete' does not work on extended keyboards.

If you don't want to edit the article yourself you can post the information in that thread and somebody will either add that request to the appropriate talk page or edit the article for you.

Hmm, is 'that thread' this one? Anyway, here is the correction
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_and ... _your_mail
references
http://homepages.tesco.net./~J.deBoyneP ... rmats.html
which appears to be dead (server reset)

According to the internet wayback machine, it has been that way for years. Ah, but thank you wayback, at one point when the page still existed, it mentions that frequently given answers have moved.

Follow that trail, and both wayback and right-now-in-the-present we find:

The http://kb.mozillazine.org/ is down in case kerz gets a email about this or if a mod wants to ping kerz by email.

Hi,

I don't have a mozillaZine account nor a mozillaZine Knowledge Base account. I'd like to have a KB account to edit a little bit about the email clients based on Mozilla Thunderbird. Can I got one, please?

Thanks in advance.

It is not our practice to grant new members of the forum edit access to the Knowledge Base. As I'm sure you can understand, there are too many individuals interested in taking advantage of such opportunities for us to immediately grant edit access to everyone that requests it. If you see something that should be changed/added please post the entire text (as a reply to this thread) for the requested change so that a moderator can can review the proposed change and update the entry if appropriate. Thanks for your understanding.

That was our old policy. See the first post in this thread for the current policy. There were very good reasons for the old policy but the side effect was we stopped getting any new knowledge base editors.

Please sign up for a MozillaZine forum account, login using that account, and add a post to this thread stating why you want the knowledge base account ("to edit http://kb.mozillazine.org/Email_clients ... hunderbird"). If you do that I'll create a KB account for you and send you a private message with the password.
