Add-on Anycolor UPDATE ver. 0.3.9

Post by Q Mark »

Edit: ***UPDATE***
See 3rd post down on page 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the people here don't seem to give a damn about Anycolor, you can try this google group: http://groups.google.com/group/firefox-add-on-anycolor

Just in case the other posting is lost, Here:
Q Mark wrote:For some reason firefoxforum.com is not there anymore. So in some attempt of trying to keep the anycolor add-on updating going, we'll try it here. I just hope flyerfox is reading this (he's the one that brought it back.).

Latest known update for anycolor is 0.3.8c Here is a link to download it. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?bdb8fr6bnfp93az

If you know how to contact flyerfox please tell him about this post & get him over here so he can update everyone on any progress himself.

For any one that might want anycolor v.0.3.7 (modified) here is a download link. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?keqstzmprisq9zq

For any one that might want anycolor v.0.3.3 (modified) here is a download link. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?43f1jlnrli33dah
I messed around with it a little and made it "compatible" up to firefox 10.* (it's not really, it just thinks it is) and managed to keep the firstrun start page for it from coming up ( you don't see it any more).

Note: After you download it (either one), you'll have to locate it on your pc, click and drag it over to firefox & drop it inside the browser so that it will install.

P.S. Spreed the word

manbat wrote:I guess no one is updating anycolor. Still regularly using firefox 8.0.1......Last version that I have had work successfully with the anycolor v 0.3.8c. I guess I'll have to change the "Default Browser" to a newer version of Firefox soon....testing them all...lol !! Have found a couple of dark themes that i can live with (dark menus and my created animated headers were the major reasons that I used anycolor)..

Of course someone is updating it. Flyerfox is updating it. He was doing it at firefoxforum.com, but that site is gone.

patrickjdempsey wrote:Ummm yes.... to be blunt, AnyColor is presently DEAD and the above mentioned "compatibility patches" are BS hacks to force compatibility even though it may still not really work.

ver. 0.3.3 & 0.3.7 are ones i've modified. 0.3.7 is one that fyerfox did, I just made slight change to make it work better. Firefox 3.6.* - 5.* work best with this & any other add-on. I've tested ALOT of add-ons with firefox 3.5.* - 10 & ff 3.6.* - 5.* seem to be the best option for operation/using any add-on. Though ff 3.6.* & 5.* can be a little iffy with a few add-ons.

Yes I know Flyerfox had updated it......It just seems that the project has been abandoned. It's a shame. Really liked the addon. Never was able to get it working above Firefox 8.01 though. I have copies of Flyerfox's v 0.3.8 and v0.3.8b stored along with the ones you mentioned.

I did edit the maxVersion in the install.rdf to 22.0.* to get it to work with Nightly 20.0a1. It installs fine and works as expected after that mod.

Here is a link to the "original anycolor" v0.3.9 is "unofficial" .
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefo ... /anycolor/

It will explain what anycolor can do. It is a great skinning "app" for Firefox. The install.rdf will have to be modified to work on the newer Firefox versions. I just updated to Firefox 23 and I edited it to work for me on FF23.

Still working With Firefox 29.........Had to add the "Classic Add On" to get the old menus and button styles. Then had to redo a few preferences, but now it is back the way I like it. I had previously modded my version to install to all the way up to "Firefox 40"......lol.

I confirmed that modified v0.3.9 does work in Firefox Developer 42.0_Alpha_2_Rev_2

But to make it work your will have to go to about:config & look for "xpinstall.signatures.required" (no quotes) & Double-click on the preference name so that its value is set to false. Now you can install unsigned extensions in Firefox. A browser restart is not needed. After that you can download manbat's modified ver. (found below).

Note: After you download it, you'll have to locate it on your pc, click and drag it over to firefox & drop it inside the browser so that it will install.

For more info/commenting try: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgr ... n-anycolor or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /anycolor/

If you can't click on links, just copy & paste in the address-bar.

"Classic Theme Restorer" AddOn helps it work best.
