Hi
I am subscribed to many Yahoo groups. For most of them, the "From" column in the Thunderbird message listing shows the original sender.
CASE A: If the "From" message header contains, for example,:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From: "'xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' xxxxxxx - at - nc.rr.com [TS-990S]" <TS-990S@yahoogroups.com>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
then the "From" column in the Thunderbird message listing shows everything between the inverted commas, thus:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'xxxxxxxxxxxxx' xxxxxxx - at - nc.rr.com [TS-990S]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
No problem -- I can see immediately who originated each message.
.
.
.
.
BUT, with other Yahoo groups (particularly some of those I've joined recently), the "From" column just shows the name of the *group* for each message, not the name of the original sender.
CASE B: If the "From" message header contains, for example:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From: "special - at - ilizarov.org.uk [rsgbtech]" <rsgbtech@yahoogroups.com>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
then *every* entry in the "From" column in the Thunderbird listing shows the *Yahoo group name* instead, thus:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
rsgbtech
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hence I have no idea who sent a message until I open it.
I don't know how/why Thunderbird treats CASE A and CASE B differently, but I would really like to see CASE A throughout. Is there any way I can tell Thunderbird to do this?

You may try this extension to pull the address from the sending header and not from the address book: https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/thunderbi ... ress-only/
Uncheck 'From' check 'Sender[@]'
Uncheck 'From' check 'Sender[@]'

This plug in is very nice and works well, unfortunately this isn't actually accomplishing the goal. The field being pulled for Sender is the same as the From. The field it needs to pull is either X-Sender or X-Original-From from the header information.
Fortunately I'm the admin on the yahoo group that I most need this for, and I can take a look at the settings to see if I can tweak it somehow (I tried this once before and got nowhere but *shrug*). Still, it would be better if we could just select those header fields as a column, or if there was an add on that chose those fields instead of some other from field that contains the same info.

Ok, figured out the problem. I needed to "repair" the folder I wanted to apply this plugin to in order for it to reindex the fields and present them to me. So yeah, works fine!

Re: Want to see originating message sender's ID for every me
OP here. I followed the steps listed above. The @Sender column appeared, I repaired the folder, but still I only see the Sender's address of the Yahoo goup, not the original sender's address. Running Thunderbird 38.2.0.
Here are the relevant headers from a typical message (I added line numbers for clarification):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*** By default, I see Line 1: rsgbtech@yahoogroups.com
*** With the add-in, I see Line 3: rsgbtech@yahoogroups.com
*** I want to see Line 2: g3sdw@sky.com
