slow response with log error (Mac)

Post by mike2636 »

OSX 10.9.5

I let MS perfrom a "critical updgrade" to MS Outlook and it crashed my Mac. I also had a Time Machine issue and had to restore from a backup from May. Tbird 38.3.0 is real slow, especially deleting msgs from the inbox. I found a lot of these errors:

Timestamp: 10/20/15, 9:04:15 PM
Error: TypeError: aDocumentNode.cardDetails is undefined
Source File: chrome://messenger/content/msgHdrViewOverlay.js
Line: 1396

Should I just reinstall?

Thx,
Mike

Is this a Thunderbird issue?

Yes, I thought I was posting in a Tbird forum. I am running Tbird 38.3.0.

You did. It just wasn't clear to me if this was a Tb issue. We sometimes get general email questions.

Moving to support.

UPDATE:
running in safe mode has no effect on problem. It appears to be mostly isolated to slow deleting. Any ideas?
Thx,
Mike

How long is the usual wait for a response? the problem appears to be getting worse by the day.

I just looked at the activity manager and I see frequent entries of stupid huge number of messages downloaded. What is going on here?

My TB issue appears to be related to the "highly rated" Avira AV. The real time protection was the culprit, When I disabled it TB is back to "normal". Can anyone shed any light here? What AV software (OSX) is "compatible" with TB?

Check to see if you can turn off email scanning in Avira (no clue where, I use Linux at home and we are windows shop at work).

I have always had trouble with anti-virus applications on my Mac. They can cause some odd problems - for example, one anti-virus caused a screen delay problem with a game ("Risk"), but I experienced no other problems.

I no longer use an anti-virus on my personal MacBook Air, nor my work MacBook Pro (officially sanctioned by our IT department).

Mike, thanks for posting this information.

If someone had pointed you to https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Te ... nce_Issues you might have seen sooner that Avira can be a problem.

Pretty much none of the AV companies are blameless here. For marketing and other purposes they attempt to deliver more powerful and complicated features than their competitors, and in the process deliver stuff that doesn't function well in all environments and breaks some people's systems. Caveat Emptor!
