First a warning..then a total block of extension

Post by mhein »

Hi Folks,
I've been using Abine's Blur (DoNotTrack) for a while now and personally very much enjoy/appreciate several of its features. I am, further, in many ways appreciative of Firefox's real efforts to warn of/deny access to any program which are, in fact, nefarious apps and extensions.
Today I was notified that Blur was "disconnected" because of improper signatures. I'd seen the warnings about this before, but knew from experience that the extension contained no threats. And that my 2 "vanguard" apps (Anti-virus and Malware) are always on guard and set to popup warnings of anything the least suspicious.
I uninstalled Blur, shutdown, re-started, went to the Abine site, and after logging-in attempted to re-install. THIS time Firefox popped up a message saying "no- this is a nefarious extension and we won't in-stall it".
I've shot off a message to Abine but I'd like to hear possible fixes (Firefox .config?). How can I get around this? Details please... I'm NOT a programmer and would never play one on TV <VBG>!
God Bless.....Mark Hein

You are in luck, looks like Mozilla approved the most recent version of Blur on the addons.mozilla.org site yesterday. Installing from this website ensures that the extension is signed:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... trackplus/
Tip of the day: If it has "toolbar" in the name, it's crap.

Hi patrickjdempsey,
After shutdown and restart after some chores around here, I just went to Abine and again (using their site's Help page link to re-download the latest version) and clicked "Ignore" the warning which came up as usual I'm set to go again with no refusals or warnings in the extension area next to Blur's listing .
Bottom line: Blur has no more problems and Firefox no more problems with Blur! Success- problem solved!!!
Hope this helps others.... and thanks for your quick response.

Well, in the future, just look for it on that website I posted and not Abine because that is where it will be signed first.
