SeaMonkey 2.41a2

Post by BlimpsandTips »

SeaMonkey 2.41a2 installer fails to load under Windows Vista. When it does manage to load and install it freezes and crashes at the end of the installer.(click finish) When one tries to open up Seamonkey 2.41a2 post installation it freezes the startmenu (if you attempt to open it from the start menu) and crashes Windows Explorer. I have yet to try this on other versions of windows.

I don't think official Win64 builds of SeaMonkey are compatible with Vista or earlier. Are you trying the 32-bit build?

I always use the 32bit build with the exception of linux due to 32bit SeaMonkey's incompatibility with Mageia 64bit. I haven't tried to unpack it via zip file for I only downloaded SeaMonkey 2.41a2 to see if it would fix my Mail issue posted in the support section.

There are none ;-).

But if s/SeaMonkey/Firefox/, then you might be right :-).
(Pretty sure something like that was mentioned in the FF forum.)

2.41a2 is not even beta, maybe it's worth filing a bug on Bugzilla?

(I imagine they're aware of what is or is not at this time. And then I understand they're 1 man short (of one), at present ;-).)

Might have to something with SHA-2 but just a wild guess.

Is this one installed?

SeaMonkey installers are not signed - at all.
(Bug 817383 - SeaMonkey needs new (public) GPG key, in order to support signing releases properly)
And even if they were, that would not prevent you from extracting the .exe directly & running "seamonkey.exe".

Jupp didn't realise that they are not signed. Running rpivate builds since a few months ago.

My 2.42a2 from December 15 runs fine under Vista x86 and my 2.41 x86 build from the same date works on Vista x64. I would try to download a new build. Might have been a corrupted one.
