I don't know why that was ever removed... isn't that against Win32 UI guidelines or something?

Does Windows even HAVE UI guidelines?

If Windows ever did, they have been violated by practically everyone.

Personally I don't really care either way... I generally know which window is Firebird. ;) But for the average user it does seem a bit weird to remove it, as I can easily imagine some people getting confused with nothing but an icon or random website title to go by.

You can read about the various reasonings behind messing with the title in Bug 215296.

 Didn't know, but I'll take your word for it :).

As for putting "-Mozilla Firebird" back in, I personally wouldn't use it, but judging from the uproar from some of the users it couldn't hurt...

EDIT: I tried to install the new Compact Menu, but either I did something wrong, or the new install didn't work, as I still get the same error...

please stop proliferating the rumour that !cdn and I are the same : P

anyway :

http://downloads.mozdev.org/cdn/flibble/flibble.xpi

which installs a directorised [ in theory ] set of files

flibble.xul to use whilst brand.dtd still contains 'Mozilla Firebird' although there's no reason why it wouldn't

flibble2.xul and flibble.dtd to use when you want it to be something else after ' - '

you will need to

rename flibble.xul to flibble1.xul

and then

rename flibble2.xul to flibble.xul

if this doesn't work, blame clav's install.js or me

For the record, I just reopened the bug...

------- Additional Comment #29 From Michael Hendy 2003-08-08 10:02 -------

OK, I'm going to reopen this, even I've been told it will cause an unholy battle
of huge proportions.

May I suggest a look at the following:

"The title bar at the top of a window displays an application-defined icon and
line of text. The text specifies the name of the application and indicates the
purpose of the window." - User Interface Element Reference, Microsoft Active
Accessibility.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defau ... x_9a2a.asp

"Sufficient information about a user interface element including the identity,
operation and state of the element shall be available to assistive technology.
When an image represents a program element, the information conveyed by the
image must also be available in text." - Section 508, § 1194.21 Software
applications and operating systems, Item d.
http://www.section508.gov/index.cfm?Fus ... 2#Software

I knew there was a better reason for commenting than "this is *really* pissing
me off"...

I think now would be a good time to start running...
