Memory leaks in firefox 47.0

Post by Dick Guertin »

Every time I launch Firefox, I get many ERROR messages. Here's a sample:

Not sure all of those are important, but some of those look like they're from this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... out-flash/

I do have "Video without flash" extension. I also have these plug-ins:

OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. 1.5.3
QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.6
Shockwave Flash 22.0 r0
Silverlight Plug-In 5.1.50428.0
Widevine Content Decryption Module provided by Google Inc.

Those are the only "Always Activate" plug-ins. The rest are "Ask to Activate", which I rarely activate.

Eliminating the extention got rid of the first 21:23:33 long-message, and the last three 21:35 messages.

Those are Plugins.
What about Extensions?

What happens if you restart in Safe Mode?

Should the QuickTime version number (7.6.6) coincide with the QuickTime (program) itself?
If so, 7.6.6 is seriously OLD.
(And in any case, QT - at least for Windows, is deprecated, no longer supported, no longer receives updates.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

On my Mac OSX 10.6.8, QT 7.6.6 is the latest version, AND it doesn't appear to be creating any of these errors:

Most look like they are within Firefox itself, not the extensions or plug-ins; but I'm not an expert. That's why I'm asking this forum.

therube was referring to Firefox safe-mode and it looks like you did a 'reboot' of your PC into safe-mode... is that correct?... if so, do the Firefox safe-mode a indicated by therube's post/link....

First, I set all plug-ins to "Ask to Activate" if they were "Always Activate". Then I restarted in Safe Mode with All Extensions disabled. The results were the same as I have posted. Note that I was NOT asked to Activate anything, and I checked both Extensions and Plug-Ins for their status. They were either (disabled) or set to "Ask to Activate". Therefore, I conclude these <Error> messages have nothing to do with Extensions or Plug-Ins. And, YES, I'm talking about Firefox Safe-Mode, not Mac Safe-Mode.

Hmmm... maybe a Mac users will come along here...

Try this out... use it as is for your test...

Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows - MozillaZine Knowledge Base
And,.... DON'T TOUCH THAT "Choose Folder..." BUTTON! ... unless you fully know all about it.

I'm sorry, but I don't have a Windows system, so those instructions are a foreign language to me. Anyway, why is everyone skating around the possibility this is a Firefox problem?

To: JayhawksRock, Your link to os-x-10-5 does NOT apply to me. I'm running Firefox 47.0 for Mac, which works on 10.6.8 (SnowLeopard) through 10.10.5 (Yosemite).

To all following this thread: I've updated Firefox for Mac on OSX 10.6.8 and 10.10.5 to version 48.0, which is last update to 10.6.8 available. Any future update will have to be of the 45.3.ESR version. On both 10.6.8 and 10.10.5, V48.0 runs, both with different startup-errors. On 10.6.8, I still get the <ERROR> messages I've shown in this thread. On 10.10.5, with both 47.0 AND 48.0, I get different errors, and not very many. Therefore, I can only conclude the "difference" is in the interaction between Firefox and the OS.

Sorry about that... follow this doc. for creating profiles for non-windows systems...

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager

Why is everybody skating around? ... wellll... maybe because with the thousands and thousands of posts to this board... nobody has seen one like your problem before....
