Perhaps what you're looking for is the Bookmarks Sidebar? It's built into Firefox. View > Sidebar > Bookmarks (or Ctrl-B) It doesn't automatically close; you can open or close it with the keyboard shortcut. There is also a toolbar button available for it in 'Customize'.
Stay-Open Menu works with the regular menu or the regular bookmarks button (not the sidebar). It prevents the menu from closing rather than remembering what it was previously opened to. It's used with Ctrl-click or middle click.
Hi custom.firefox.lady,
Your username is a attention grabber...I guess quite frankly, I was grasping for straws when I installed your extension..I was hoping it would do what I was looking for. Thanks SO much for taking the time to develop it..and of course thank you for your reply. Have a GREAT day !! To be honest,I had forgotten about the bookmarks sidebar..and just like you mentioned, when using that my bookmarks perform like they do in IE, the only issue that I can see with the sidebar is the fact that you have to manually close it everyime, but that's the same way favorites are rendered in IE.

Translate that please...Is that in the 8-7-16 build? Or tomorrow's (8-8-16)?

If issue is not on the 8-7 build, I'll check it out when the 8-8 nightly is out. Otherwise, I need steps to reproduce (not seeing anything obviously wrong).

Sorry, I'm still not able to reproduce that behavior. Does it happen in a clean profile?

...but that reminds me that I never did a beta build with the fix for Ctrl-clicking a menuitem in the (new in Fx 49) "Recently Bookmarked" section, which I've had fixed locally for quite some time.

The bug the caused the issue is backed out so the problem is fixed in today's build
Haha, I don't even know whether it will be possible to recreate these features in a WebExtension. Taking a wait and see attitude; I don't have time to look into it any further ATM anyway. If they make it possible, I'll likely attempt it...if not, time to find a new hobby.

Why don't you post in the meta bugs of WebExtension & request the features you like to add in a meta bug for Stay-Open Menu , similar to the devs of other addons do egrequest a lot of apis which were added to Firefox 49
Some links which you might find useful to help you port

At present, I wouldn't have any idea what to even request
Will look into it further later in the year when I'm less busy. We're not going to be "WebExtensionsYet" any time soon.
I have a problem about menus which don't want to close when you don't use them and move the cursor outside them (i need use the ESCAPE button to close them):
- In Firebug the right click open menu but don't want close on mouse out (need ESCAP)
- In Bookmark manager idem
- sometime when i drop a bookmark into a folder into the bookmark bar
- Greasemonkey menu stay open after a click on its dropdown icon and close only on a reclick on it or an . But it close with an action on its menu
I tested the options of your addon .
I try to unistall it but i continue to have the same problem.
Idem if i reinstall it...
I can't find why and where i have these persistent settings (where they are , in about-config, pref.js ???)
I try to disable many addon i use and enable them one by one (with resart) but without finding something useful.
how i can erase them (without reset my firefox profile ) ?
I use Waterfox 50.1.0 but it the same problem with this profile Firefox.

Does clicking outside the menu close it? Stay-Open menu should not have any effect on Firebug (or the Bookmark Manager) at all. Unless I'm misunderstanding your issue, what you are seeing seems to be standard Firefox behavior. Perhaps you are expecting Stay-Open Menu's autoclosing option to take effect on more menus than what is supported...that is only intended to affect the bookmarks and history menus which Stay-Open Menu keeps open on middle/ctrl click. (Perhaps that could be clearer in its options?) Were you seeing something different before you installed Stay-Open Menu?
Seems a problem with this Profile.
Use the same settings from a clean profile to the problematic profile change nothing.
With and without Stay-Open Menu and on a clean profile i have no problem :
In Firebug ( Developer toolbar too) and bookmark manager , all menu open by right click close normally when i go outside them.
And clicking outside the menu close them.
What's setting or addon can affect this , especially the use of ESCAP to close "right click" menus in firebug and bookmark pages?
That's strange...
