FRG
Google Maps does not require cookies. I have completely blocked Google from setting cookies, but I have no problem using Google Maps. I have also blocked DOM Storage.

For mail, have you tried the setting "network.protocol-handler.external.mailto" in about:config?
Yes, tried everything from every possible angle so far.

What's DOM and why should it be off, and how?

This page explains DOM storage:

A lot more data can be stored without your being aware of it.

Yeah, I probably want to shut that off too. How, please?

Probably best to stick to doing and thinking about one thing at a time. RAM use in the new clean profile?
Much better, more like under 100 megs.

It's actually called localStorage and it can be disabled about:config > dom.storage.enabled to false. But expect sites to breaking as a result of doing that.

Great, we're making progress here. :)
What extensions do you have in your main profile?

Good. That's your RAM problem and Email links sorted. The Google maps thing looks like it may go away of its own accord. - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14678279 If not, we'll fix that as well.

The usual next step is this - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... o_transfer ....which is moving only essential files and folder from the old profile to the new one. (there is a SeaMonkey version of that article here, but it's hard to understand - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _SeaMonkey)

I'll talk you through that side, if required. You can then, with your old bookmarks, passwords, etc in place, browse as normal on your new profile.

The final stage will be to look at any extensions you were using on your old profile and see if there was a problem there.

Btw do you use SeaMonkey's Email program?

No, never have. I've been using Pegasus Mail since 1992.

But as far as the mailto links in the browser not working, after Windows 10 upgrade, I discovered this afternoon that it's a Pegasus problem, not a browser problem. Posted this in the Pegasus forum:

I have news. I just opened a chat session with Microsoft Support. They were actually nice enough to give me support for this free Windows 10 upgrade.

What we discovered was that, while none of the mailto links from ANY browser would work with Pegasus, if I switched to Thunderbird as my default email program in Windows 10, THEN the mailto links work!

So this positively identifies Pegasus as not working with mailto links from all browsers, on my PC, after the upgrade from Win 7 to Windows 10.

It MAY be because that WSEND.EXE is a 2011 dated file?

And yes, I've ALSO tried running WSEND.EXE in Win 7 compatibility mode, to no avail.

Not sure what you mean there.

I actually already moved the bookmarks already, by copying the files over in the folders.

Oh, something else to mention. There was a Silverlight update that Windows 10 kept trying to do, on a Silverlight file from April ( before I upgraded to Windows 10 ) but it kept failing. I found out the reason was, that it was set to automatic updates and kept trying to do it with the browser open. In FACT, I couldn't even manually uninstall the old Silverlight UNTIL I figured out that I had to CLOSE Seamonkey first! I uninstalled it and then manually installed the latest. That MAY have had something to do with all this? Does Silverlight matter? Of course I've been having the creeping RAM problem for years.

That would rock. Let me see that link first. :D

Interesting. I'm not a dummy, though I may sound like one when I don't know what people are talking about ( have no experience with a particular thing ). But I'm actually a former Electronics Research & Development Technician with an ASET ( Associate in Science in Electronics Technology - 1969 ), so I'm not unfamiliar with troubleshooting. I built my own color TV kit and ham radio kits years ago and worked in a space lab before 1993. :D

Your original profile was using 800mb and, if I understand correctly, the new one is using 100mb? - that sounds like a sorted RAM problem to me. I also understand that the Email link problem you had is now sorted?

I can't reply to this as I can't think of another way to write what I've already written. What is 'how so' referring to?

Oh, "sorted"! You're in UK. LOL

The RAM was starting around 100k and creeping up, the longer the browser was open and being used. It was going as high as 800MB or so, at times, then I'd have to close it and start again.

You said it may go away on its own? It hasnt. And I don't understand much of the tech discussion at that thread.
