Help with pinned bookmark tiles feature. [Linux.]

Post by cantakRus »

Firefox 48.0 on Ubuntu.

I am a new firefox user and have some questions about Tiles in New Tab feature.
I have used the speed dial in opera for years and thought the tiles would be similar.
I frequently delete cookies, history and cache and when I do this the tile images disappear.
Then if I sit there with the tiled tab open it seems to go to each pinned website and download the entire website again just for a new tile image.

Is there a way to stop this behaviour after deleting history and cache?
or
Is there a newtab add-on that behaves similar to Opera's speed dial?

Reason: Added [Linux] to the title.

NoScript does this among other things, but that's kind of a massive sledgehammer if you don't need or want its other functionality.

Do you have a preference "browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled" in about:config?

No "browser.pagethumbnails.capturing_disabled" setting in about:config.
I do use umatrix. Would that be able to do similar as noscript.

Ok thanks dfoulkes.
Intalled the Speed Dial add-on and seems to function more like Opera's speed dial.
One other question... how do you customize keyboard shortcuts?

I tried but either it can't do this or the logger is lying...

EDIT This might be worth a bug report on gorhill's issue tracker if you can do it https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix/

I don't know... I don't alter that stuff... but here are a couple of extensions that seem
to have controls on that...
Menu Wizard :: Add-ons for Firefox
VimFx :: Add-ons for Firefox

Or do more searches on AMO (Mozilla's extension site..
Add-ons for Firefox

I do see a number of posts on the WEB that mentions using the first extension above...

... Else... lots of smart people who know all about that stuff... they should be along to post.
