Export only selected bookmarks?

Post by barbaz »

I run SeaMonkey browser in a sandbox that gets almost completely dumped on exit. So far, this has worked great - save downloads, copy+paste other noteworthy stuff, scrap the rest as unneeded.

Although now, I'm browsing too many URLs to keep up, and would like to save bookmarks created in the sandbox.

I tried the JSON export, but when importing that into another sandbox, some bookmark data, such as favicons, is lost. So that won't work here.

Then tried the HTML export, which does contain all needed data - however, it has _all_ my bookmarks. And on import, everything - including folders - got duplicated.

So how to export only specific bookmarks?

Hi,
Here's an old thread in which "the-edmeister" & "WarrenW" reckons this works...

Move all your "done" bookmarks into a "DONE" folder.
All new bookmarks ... (go to where ever new bookmarks go).
When you're done browsing, delete the DONE folder.
What's left remaining are your new bookmarks...
Fire 750, bring back 250.

That method does work, although inconsistently. Sometimes, re-importing the edited bookmark file seems to do nothing. Other times, the bookmarks import but (some) go straight to bookmarks menu instead of in folders.

I've looked at the files and don't see any obvious differences in the bookmarks' HTML before and after editing.

What's making the difference between being imported OK and not?

Interesting idea, didn't think of that. And it does work also.
But I have so many bookmarks already that it is slow and each step hangs the browser for a bit. Trimming down the exported bookmarks.html in a WYSIWYG editor is quicker.
