Profile won't store Bookmarks

Post by Crash2100 »

I just installed SeaMonkey 2.7 in Windows XP, and everything seems to work in the program except, for some reason, it won't store my bookmarks in my original profile, nothing but the Bookmarks button and Menu displays, and it won't even let me create a single bookmark. Something that I have discovered is that this only applies to my one default profile, if I create a new profile to use, it works just fine, the problem here is that I loose everything (settings and stored passwords) from the original default profile.

Does anyone know how I could solve this?

Why did you install that years-outdated version of SeaMonkey instead of the current release? http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Because 2.7 is as far as I can get anything to work, I have tried installing that version but it won't run correctly. I have even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program using version 2.40, I have even tried renaming the profile and program folders before I install this, but it won't run, it just shows a quick flash on the screen and nothing else happens. I can't even get into the browser, and I have to do an end task on seamonkey.exe to close it.

I did install 2.40 on a laptop running Windows 7, and it worked just fine. Which is why I am so frustrated with this.

See if this affects your bookmarking problem:
1) Completely quit SeaMonkey
2) Back up your entire profile
3) Open the original profile folder
4) Move any files whose names contain "places.sqlite" to somewhere outside of the profile folder
5) Start SeaMonkey again

Can you bookmark stuff now?

Yes, you have nearly brought tears to my eyes, that worked perfectly! Thank you very much.

If we could only figure out why the later versions of SeaMonkey simply crash when I try to execute them installed in Windows XP, it would make my day perfect. Do you have any suggestions for my problems with 2.40 not running correctly? The program executes and flashes something, but it simply disappears before I can even see anything, leaving seamonkey.exe running in the Task Manager's processes list.

Thanks again.

You're welcome. :D

Not really, as I don't use Windows. Others would know more.

IIRC, a while back, there was something about newer SeaMonkey not working OOB with Windows XP. Something about needing a specific version of Visual C++ runtime or some "extra" "missing" .dll, I think? Not finding it now.

But this could be a wild goose chase... best wait for others to comment before trying stuff along these lines.

In my XP I have problems when C drive is full.
SM need free space in profile folder and in TEMP folder.

SM 2.40 in Win XP works good.
At the moment I have launched SM 2.40, SM 2.46, SM 2.39, SM 1.1.19 and Fx 49.0.1

SeaMonkey 2.40 worked, it actually worked!

Well, after doing a few things. In the 2.7 version, I set the default profile to open automatically. I downloaded the copy of 2.40 from the site below, deleted what I could in the windows temp folder, then temporally disabled my anti-virus, and installed the program. Then the program has been running beautifully for the past two days, it had everything I had before in my profile including add-on's. I could not be more happy about this. Thanks again for everybody's help.

No such issue.

Oh, well, if the installer didn't include the needed files, that's a different situation.
And that might have been - for particular Nightlies or something or the other, but I don't recall that on any Release.

Are you sure that's the link.
I'm see a "untrusted connection" message with that particular link.
(There was a bug... https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.c ... 272909#c13)

Where did you find that particular link?
(Thinking where ever it is, it needs an update too.)
Fire 750, bring back 250.

That is the exact link they give you for downloading SeaMonkey 2.40 on http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/
