Mozilla FTP access - Seamonkey archives

Post by webmoebius »

I've been trying to access the Mozilla FTP server for downloading slightly older versions of Seamonkeys for testing. But it appears to be unresponsive or down:

ftp: ftp.mozilla.org/

Can anyone confirm if the above FTP URL works for them or have the same problem?

Try http(s)://ftp.mozilla.org/. Those work. I believe that they are not using ftp:// protocol any more.

That worked fine. I didn't know the FTP protocol was retired by Mozilla. Thank you.

The ftp protocol on ftp.mozilla.org was turned off since Aug 5.

Use links like http://ftp.mozilla.org/ or https://ftp.mozilla.org/ or http://archive.mozilla.org/ or http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/

CURIOUS about all of the dates, including comments - and FTP time/date stamps - ALL newER (than the current, 2.40 - WHICH is NOT even the latest version) are from 2015:
  1. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.9/
  2. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/README
  3. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.9b4/
27-Oct-2015, to 02-Nov-2015; HOW does that work? o.0

++ Comments (the latest, right?!), 13 Nov 2015, 3:54 GMT http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Browsers/SeaMonkey.shtml

Edit:
Yes, their web page shows SeaMonkey 2.40 as the latest download (http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/), but the FTP lists higher versions - up to 2.9 (and moar, 2.9.x); EXCEPT that date is back in 2015.

... No Comprendo. :-0

Dunno if this deserves another post, but noticed something (pretty?) crazy (!) about that error page - apart from not being able to View Page Source:

Code: Select all

view-source:https://download.cdn.mozilla.net/
... In FIREFOX; but, Opera displays it w/o any issues whatsoever.

This was a old thread from Sept 2015

SeaMonkey 2.40 (two.forty) is indeed still the current Release (until 2.46 is Released) as 2.9 (two.nine) is a much older Release version as you can see on bottom of http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/

Released April 24, 2012 http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/2.9

The reason for the 2015 dates on the much older Releases is due to the migration back then.

https://blog.mozilla.org/it/2015/07/27/ ... e-impacts/
Action: The contents of ftp.mozilla.org are being migrated from the NetApp in SCL3 to AWS/S3 managed by Cloud Services.
Timing: Migrating ftp.mozilla.org contents will start in late August and conclude by end of October. Impacted teams will be notified of their migration date.

Version numbers do not work like decimal fractions. 2.40 is "two point forty" and is a higher version than 2.9, which is "two point nine".

I didn't know the FTP protocol was retired by Mozilla.
Their ftp servers were long ago terminated.

The ftp protocol they have talked about "retiring", so they'll get around to that at some point.

That's this, http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic ... #p14718928
I'm see a "untrusted connection" message with that particular link.
