Ok, so here I was looking for how to restore settings using my old profile data
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/pr ... -user-data

That webite currently says...
The mozillaZine.org and support.mozilla.org are two different sites. MozillaZine is a old site independently owned by one person while support.mozilla.org is run by well Mozilla.
http://www.mozillazine.org/about/

If you have any concerns about support.mozilla.org site related stuff then you can bring it up in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums in Knowledge base articles section there.

Hi,

I would like to suggest the addition of Podcast and Video Podcast types to this knowledge base entry:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.conte ... pes.*.type

Section "Possible values and their effects" already mentions:
Web Feed - application/vnd.mozilla.maybe.feed

But two other types are also supported:
Podcast - application/vnd.mozilla.maybe.audio.feed
Video Podcast - application/vnd.mozilla.maybe.video.feed

Under "Related bugs" the following bug should be mentioned:
Bug 400061 - Add "Podcast" and "Video Podcast" entries to the applications prefpane
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400061

Hi,

I'd like to have a KB account please. No major ambitions, just little fixes or updating out-of-date info I come across sometimes. My immediate objective was to add a link to the updated "Dorando Keyconfig" addon to the "Keyconfig extension" page. So that sort of thing. I'm pretty well aquainted with wiki editing. Thanks!

Since I don't have a way to edit the wiki, I'd like to add to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.tabs.tabMaxWidth and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.tabs.tabMinWidth in the "Has an effect in" sections that it still has effect in SeaMonkey 2.x.

Thanks. I hope someone can add that for me.

I would like to add a third party backup program to http://kb.mozillazine.org/Third_party_p ... d_services.

TbBackup is a profile backup and restore utilty for Thunderbird under Windows. It is part of the Freeware package Personal Backup and will make the job a child's play.

Supported languages: English, German, French, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Hungarian

Hi. I'd like to request a KB account for the purpose of updating http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config_entries to discuss the settings for the history/Places api (i.e. places.history.expiration.max_pages), and while I'm there to update the various incorrect documentation about requesting a KB account (e.g. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Create_a_know ... se_account).

Thanks.

tanstaafl: Thanks for fixing up the Create a knowledge base account page.
It seems to me the new user KB experience isn't quite what we want, still, so I'm going to make some suggestions here (since I properly can't edit Mediawiki: space protected pages).

I merged the duplicate text about account creation from the above page and also MediaWiki:Loginprompt into a new Template:KB account. Can you please edit MediaWiki:Loginprompt to transclude the common text (so there is one place and only one place to edit the text, so it won't get out of sync again):

Code: Select all

KB account

You must have cookies enabled to log in to the SITENAME.
(A separate template is required since both the Create page and the Loginprompt page have different text after the common message.)

I think a relatively common case is someone is on a KB page and sees the Edit button in the sidebar and clicks it. They then get:

Login required to edit
You have to login to edit pages.

Which is not particular helpful for people without KB accounts, and kind of misleading. Let's give those people the quickest exit path possible by showing them the message earlier rather than later.
So can you change MediaWiki:Whitelistedittitle to: A KB account is required to edit; and you must login
and more usefully, change the text, which is in MediaWiki:Whitelistedittext to:

Code: Select all

If you have a KB account, you have to login to edit pages.

KB account
to clarify the message for accountholders, and then transclude the aforementioned template.

Lastly, I think it's confusing that the right sidebar offers "Log in/Create Account", since no one except sysops can create accounts.
I'd suggest changing it to just "Log in," although I recognize that means that sysops who are used to looking for the words "Create Account" would no longer see it — but most likely they look to the Create a knowledge base account instructions anyhow, which links explictly to Special:Userlogin, so the account creation reminder via the sidebar is unnecessary. If you agree, can you change MediaWiki:Userlogin to: Login
?
(Alternatively maybe could be "Login / create account (sysops only)"?)

I think that covers all the cases I ran into when I was trying to figure out how to get a KB account. Thanks!

I tried making the changes you suggested using the KB account template. However, MediaWiki:Loginprompt displayed the two sections in dotted boxes. So I duplicated all of its text changes in MediaWiki:Loginprompt instead.

Media:Whitelistedtext had no problem with KB account . I added "You must have cookies enabled to log in to the SITENAME to KB account" .

"Lastly, I think it's confusing that the right sidebar offers "Log in/Create Account", since no one except sysops can create accounts."
I agree, but only Kerz can change that and there are much more important changes that he has not made due to lack of time.

The KB thread is periodically deleted (it has also been accidentally deleted a few times when a moderator was fixing a problem with the forum), each time requiring a new thread to be created and MediaWiki:Loginprompt to be updated. So I'm going to stick with text saying to use the Knowledge Base thread near the top of the MozillaZine Site Discussion forum rather than having a direct link to the thread.
