@Frank - when you get real old I guess you have to nap once in a while, you should thank me.
While you were napping did you come up with a solution?
I've tried something else, unlikely it will work but I've placed the url for the metar data IP range in NoScript untrusted in about:config.
If ity doesn't bounce over to the western or the commerce site it might be stopped.

Extreme measure employed but it is stopped so far.
If it shows up again it means it's evil.

I've been watching this with interest and saw the (solved) in the mail and YEA!

Strange way you had to deal with it but at lest, Xing fingers, it's working.

@Sector11 - inside surgery, found the bin which makes the calls to the locale.mo's. (This for Linux Mint 17.x)
Kills the GUI panel clock and calender as they share the same data.
Different from Ubuntu which allows the removal of the weather package without the loss of the calendar and clock in the panels.
Different replacement clock and date restored with app from the Repository.
Finally got a decent clock.
Never affected the system clock because the NTP is local only, no outside system calls requiring the remote locale tick.

@Mightyglydd - When you get done with that one I've got about 800 feet worth needs whitewashing.

^ @mightyglydd - ... and about as exciting too! :D

^ @Grumpus - best part: it's fixed. (I use conky for a clock - bottom right corner)
- yea, get mightyglydd to do that. When it comes to whitewashing, I don't even know Tom.

Definitely has a stake in it's heart for now.
Gave some thought to a re-install of the package to restore the files and edit the control file to see if that can affect it but more time than I wish to spend.
Another question about the manner in which it is provided; if the weather is making the call, what else is calling out with several different components sharing things???
Have no specific evidence of any other out call not anything in the logs but too many unidentified AWS hits during normal browsing to think all are purposeful from Mozilla.
It's the old conundrum, when is help too much?

E.T. vs paranoia, let's not forget that.

E.T. in this case: Electronic Transfers call home
