Area to post without registration

Post by Pochemuchkin »

Is there an area/topic to post questions/discuss mozilla/firefox problems without registration?
If there is no, I suggest to create it.

No. The area to post support questions is the Firefox Support Forum and registration is required to post there. This is done to minimize, as much as possible, the amount of spam the forum receives.

But you can:
- create separate subforum
- or create one separate topic for this purpose
Separate subforum or topic can't "spamming of forum members"...

The only area open for unregistered posts is this MozillaZine Site Discussion forum which is intended to be used for issues relating to the site itself, registration problems, etc. All other areas of the board require registration.

What is your problem with registering if you are seeking support?

All of the Support sub-forums allowed anonymous posting for years. We stopped that because of the ungodly amount of spam they would get. Those of us who clean all of that up are all volunteers (we don't get paid). We will not be going back to that.

Spam is not just email sent to "forum members". Spam is also junk posts added to forums.

Do you honestly think that I can't smell a PM user here, not matter how many times they spoof their UA string?

The Firefox Support, Thunderbird Support, SeaMonkey Support on http://forums.mozillazine.org used to allow Guest posting alongside registered member posting up till March 2011. Unfortunately we were getting ever increasing amount of spam each day with the majority of the spam threads and posts on existing threads at time was by Guests so it was decided to discontinue Guest posting.

Once we discontinued guest posting then we used to for months get a Huge number of new spam accounts registered each day even though new members first post required post approval at time also.

If the Support sections only got say ten or less spam posts a week instead of say easily ten (if not way more at times) a hour that we were getting then Guest posting could probably still be allowed in the Firefox Support, Thunderbird Support, SeaMonkey Support sections.

We do get spam threads and posts by Guests in MozillaZine Site Discussion though it gets deleted.

It has been the administrator's decision to require registration in support areas and, at the end of the day, it's his board, so he can do or not do anything he bloody well pleases with it.
