Edit Mail Cannot Delete Table

The body of rich text e-mails is implemented using HTML. I therefore would presume that Thunderbird would share code with the rendering engine of Firefox. Specifically that to avoid reinventing the wheel it would use the existing code that implements contenteditable in Firefox to provide the ability to edit rich text e-mail bodies. However the clumsiness of the existing editor suggests to me that Thunderbird has an independent implementation of the ability to edit HTML. In particular Thunderbird does not provide an intuitive method for deleting a <table> from an e-mail. Instead it has a non-intuitive interface that requires the user to delete individual rows or columns one at a time until all of the components of the table are gone.

Try placing the cursor before the table, holding down the Shift key and clicking the mouse after the table, then pressing the Del key.
