Revert Search bar behaviour to mouse click instead of Return

In the latest version of Firefox, the Search bar behaviour has changed: when you enter the search text, you can no longer click on the default search engine, you can only press Return on the keyboard to search with the default engine.

Is it possible to revert this so that the default search engine can be clicked, somewhere in about:config perhaps?

Fwiw, I don't like this change because it's inconsistent - users have to use the keyboard to use their default search engine, but have to use the mouse to select one of the other search engines. I wish Mozilla would stop fiddling with things like this, or at least make it easy to revert.

Clicking on the magnifying glass at the right end of the search bar still launches the current search engine.

Thank you, I hadn't spotted that (it's a right arrow in my Firefox 51.0.1, not sure if it varies).

52.0 has arrived but the bug described above has not been fixed yet.

Are you talking about the search box, or the actual address bar? If I enter text to search in FF 52's search box (not address bar), and click on the magnifying glass, I get a choice of all my search engines under the suggest searches.

Resolved in Firefox 53.0. Yaay! Thanks everybody for your replies.
