Is there an 'Auto Correct As You Type' in TB?

Post by koolx »

Is there an auto-correct add-on for TB? Its annoying when youre typing messages and see errors but TB doesn't auto correct them. I tried an add-on called 'AutoUp' But it sucks big time. Or maybe TB should work on an update that includes this?

Not as far as I know. There is the dictionary that automatically underlines incorrect words so you can correct them afterwards.

Speaking of extensions, the only one I have seen is "mms Auto Correct"; but it stopped working at Thunderbird version 45.

Not unless they can get it to be smarter than the auto-correct in iOS which far too often serves up completely invalid and/or inappropriate "corrections".

Seriously, I don't think you'll see anything like that any time soon. Given that TB is community developed now there are too many other places the resources are needed to anticipate an auto-correct feature in the near future.

There is no built-in auto-correct but there is a auto-spell check as you type (set in tools -> options -> compose -> spelling -> enable spell checking as you type) that will underline in red misspelled words. It requires you to right clicks on the word to select the suggested spelling. This is different from the spell check when sending.

Did you try Word Expander? Its really a text expander like PhraseExpander and Asutype but it can be used for auto-correct spelling mistakes.

"Yes I've anabled the spell check in TB. All it does is tell you whats misspelled."
That's incorrect. You have to right click on the mis-spelled word (after it indicates it recognized it is mis-spelled by underlining it in red) to get the context menu with suggested spellings.

No what I said was correct. It doesnt correct misspellings automatically. Right-clicking a word to find its correction in the popup menu is NOT auto- correction. Auto-correction is an automatic correction system where misspelled words are corrected automatically without any intervention on your part.

I didn't claim it corrected spellings automatically. I just said you were incorrect when you said "All it does is tell you whats misspelled."
