Thunderbird didn't receive a gmail message.[Solved]

Hi, I'm using Thunderbird 45.8.0 on a Mac to view my gmail (imap). I was concerned when I didn't receive an email I was expecting a few days ago, so I went online and searched on gmail. The message did arrive as expected on gmail, but did not come through to Thunderbird. I did numerous searches with the subject, from address, and message ID. I also checked spam.

Is there some way I can further troubleshoot/debug? I want to put in all the effort I can to use Thunderbird, because so far I love it. However if can't safely assume I am getting all my mail, unfortunately I cannot stay.

BTW, I figured out the answer to my previous post about searching (there is a link at the top of the search page to view as a list). I would delete the post, but its not showing up anywhere, perhaps because it is waiting for approval.
