Quicken download problem.

Post by streetwolf »

Can someone who is using Quicken for Windows preferably 2017 or 2016 send me their mimeTypes.rdf file? When I download my bank transactions the file menu offers only 'Open with Internet Explorer.' As weird as it sounds this works. The correct 'Open with' is something called QuickenWindow which doesn't work for me. Thanks.

Works to do what?
Open in "QuickenWindow", or open in IE?

Here's the deal. The QFX file, which is the file containing my banks transactions, is really just an XML file. In Windows it is associated with QuickenWindow. The XML association is Internet Explorer or any program you choose.

I think that since the QFX file is an XML file Fx is using the association of XML to Internet Explorer to open the file. Instead of opening the file in IE it opens it up in Quicken which is good. I got it working this way a long time ago by changing my mimeTypes.rdf to add XML to the various Quicken definitions.

The downloaded file should use QuickenWindow which btw doesn't work. Quicken thinks its an XML file and really doesn't know how to handle it. I would like to look at someones mimeTypes.rdf file who uses Quicken and their download is using QuickenWindow.

BTW... QuickenWindow is just the friendly name for QW.EXE the Quicken executable.

Here's what's in my mimeType.rdf below. I had to add the line containing xml in order for quicken to process my download file. Xml is associated with my text editor Notepad++.exe and this is what I select on the download screen. Of interest is that 'real' xml files are loaded by Notepad++ when I click on them in File Explorer. This leads some credence that Fx is reading the header of the file, determining it's an xml file, and via the stuff below opens up Quicken.

NC:value="application/vnd.intu.qfx"

<NC:fileExtensions>qfx</NC:fileExtensions>
<NC:fileExtensions>xml</NC:fileExtensions>

Have you actually downloaded the file?
And the extension is actually; .qfx or .xml?

What bank is this?
(It could be a mime-type issue on the banks end?)

BoA allows transaction download as; .qif (y2 & y4), .qbo (seem to contain more date then .qfx?), & .qfx (among others).

I don't have Quicken (except for DOS) so can't help on that end.
So nothing relating in mimeTypes.rdf in that respect.

Anyhow, saving each first, if there were a (Windows) association set up for the respective file types, I'd expect clicking on the .qif, .qbo, .qfx... to open in the expected application.
